Should There Be a Light On the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller While Driving Without Trailer

Updated 12/17/2024 | Published 07/15/2021

Question:

Hi, I recently bought a Tow-Pro Liberty from etrailer.com and have it installed on my 2016 GMC Acadia. My camper hasnt been delivered yet, so I couldnt test the Tow-Pro with a trailer. I just noticed that the LED was not lit up when I am driving my Acadia. Im not sure this is because my wiring has issues or just because no trailer is hooked up?

In regards to the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller part # # RED24FR, the unit should not be illuminated while driving without a trailer. If you press the button while a trailer is not attached you should see a breathing blue light and that simply indicates the controller is in sleep mode. This is further explained in the manual so please give this a look over.

What do you mean by "breathing" blue light?

@SteveD Yeah, it is hard to describe but it should be a blue light that slowly dims from on to off. Like, not blinking, more slowly pulsating from on to off. Redarc uses the term "breathing" in their literature but that is really the only place I have heard that term used, now that you mention it.

@JesseM Thanks for the explanation, it does just start at bright blue and slowly dims to off if the button is pushed and no trailer is attached.
