Hi Charles! I completely understand wanting to avoid wiring. It can be a real pain,

The good news is that the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Brake Controller with Custom Harness # RED74CR includes a wiring harness designed to connect to the factory brake controller port, so you won't have to splice into your vehicle's wiring. With the factory tow package in place, the connection is made underneath the dash. I've attached an installation video for you, and around the 6 minute mark, you'll see our installer point out where the factory plug is located.

I really like Redarc because they have a great reputation for quality products and smooth, controlled braking. I also like the Tow Pro Liberty because it uses a small control knob on the dash instead of a bulky controller hanging underneath it. It gives you a cleaner, more factory look and keeps a large box from getting in the way of your knee while driving.

What kind of trailer will you be towing with your Ridgeline?

I have installed the RedArc controller on two Ridgelines, a 2019 and 2026. With the adapter cable there is no wiring to do. It all just plus in. That being said, it does take some awkward bending and reaching to make connections. On the 2026 I had to remove the left lower dashboard panels to gain access to the plug to make the connection. There is a video that shows you how to do this and you only need a plastic pry bar to get them off. You also need to find a place to mount the braking level knob. It is either drilling a hole through the dash or using the custom switch cover from trailer. I have done both I would say if you are not handy this could be intimidating, but doable. You could have it installed or buy one that does not require so much hands on.

@Loren Great advice, Loren! It’s always helpful to hear from someone who has installed the controller on both models. It sounds like the wiring itself is straightforward with the adapter, but getting to the factory plug and finding a spot for the control knob can take a little extra work. Thanks for sharing those installation tips to help other Ridgeline owners know what to expect!

I installed a Redarc Towpro Liberty in my 2022 Ridgeline. It didn't require any wiring with the proper wiring harness, just plugging it in and zip-tying the controller under the dash. The hardest part was mounting the control knob. I had a blank switch position, so I modified the blanking plate for mounting the knob, which required both drilling a hole in the plate and snipping out some of the reinforcing plastic in the plate.

I installed one on my 2025 Ridgeline. There is a wire with a connector under the dash above the emergency brake pedal. Just plug into that, and it’s connected. I anchored the unit using Velcro tape and attached it under the dash lip behind the steering wheel housing. It involves a little twisting and contorting yourself to get the right angle. I used the switch blank near the parking alert and lane departure control switches and fastened the control knob with a universal plate cover. It works great and operates seamlessly when towing. Haven’t had to use the manual override in real life, just to test the system and it works well.

@Dean Thanks for sharing your experience, Dean! our experience definitely lines up with what other Ridgeline owners have mentioned about having to twist and contort a bit to reach the factory plug under the dash. It's great to hear the controller is working seamlessly for you, and your tip about using the factory switch blank for the control knob is helpful for anyone looking for a clean installation. What are you towing?

Installed a few months ago in my 2024 Ridgeline RTL. I had a blank cover that I removed to accommodate the switch assembly but instead of using a plastic pry tool (and possibly breaking something), I used either my index finger or thumb to depress and push the top or bottom clip in back. Once one of the two clips is released, the blank cover will easily come out. My truck did have the wiring harness above the parking brake; however, connecting it is challenging because you must lie on your back using a headlamp and there is only room for one adult hand up there (I did not want to remove the panel). Same with securing the Liberty to a metal bracket which I did with two zip ties, also one-handed! I bought some Extreme Velcro strips which I keep in the truck in case a tie breaks. Once the switch assembly is installed, it looks factory installed. Employed the controller on six fly fishing trips this summer and it worked great. Probably helped me avoid colliding with some ungulates.

@Walt It's awesome you were able to get the blank out without using a pry tool. I know those can be difficult to remove. Six flying fishing trips!? You are living the life Walt! Where did you go if you don't mind my asking?

I installed the Redarc in my 2025 Ridgeline. It truly is plug and play. I am not really a handy person and I was really nervous about the install. I can honestly say it went extremely well! The directions and YouTube made it super easy. Good Luck, you can do it!
