Question:
hi, i have a standard 5x8 enclosed trailer with a single axle. currently it has 13 inch wheels with 175/80-13, D load rating. could i go up in size for better road clearance and wheel load capacity? if so would i be able to go to 14 inch wheels 205/75-14 or what do you recommend. this is for a cross country trip

It is possible to go from a 175/80-13 tire like the # AM10210 to a 205/75-14 tire like the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10235 but you will need to consider the clearance on top as well as the inside of the tire. Typically you want to have at least 3" of clearance between the top of the tire and the trailer/fender and a minimum of 2" of clearance between the inside of the tire and the closest part of the trailer.
A tire like the # AM10235 is going to be taller and wider than what you currently have. This tire has a section width of 8.1" and an outer diameter when inflated of 26.3". This means that when compared to the # AM10210 you will lose 1.1" of clearance on the top and .55" of clearance on the inside of the tire. As long as you still have enough clearance you will be able to use the tire. Since you will also need wheels, I recommend getting a wheel and tire combo like the # AM32161
Another thing to keep in mind is the capacity of the other components of your trailer. You will always be limited by the weakest component. Although these tires may have a higher weight capacity when compared to your current tires you will likely be limited by your axle or other trailer parts depending on the rating.
