How Should Polypropylene Trailer Vent # HMAV2-AVT2 Be Installed and Will it Keep Out Water

Updated 08/06/2013 | Published 08/03/2013

Question:

General consensus seems to be mounting these in pairs with the front unit opening facing forward and the rear unit opening facing backward. I understand how that improves airflow but what stops the front unit from spraying water inside when traveling 60MPH down a rainy highway? My goal installing these is to help reduce ambient temperature inside the trailer when parked for extended times. In conjunction with installing a roof vent, would I mount these with the opening down in the lower quarter of the wall? Since heat rises, convection should take over, drawing air from the lower vents and exhausting out the top. Have you seen any installations in this manner?

The short answer is nothing prevents water from going into vent # HMAV2-AVT2. If you have the opening facing down some water may trickle in at higher speeds but it would not be like a continuous misty spray.

I believe that the way you want to install these vents would work well, especially considering that you will also be adding a roof vent. While I have not personally seen anyone install these vents in this manner, there really is no right or wrong way to install them and your way is perfectly viable.
