What all do I need to use the Redarc brake controller on my 2022 Toyota Highlander?

In order to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR on a 2022 Toyota Highlander you'll need the Mounting Panel part # 331-TPSI-002 to mount the control knob. The controller will have to be hardwired as there is no factory brake controller plug. That said, if you use the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness w Brake Controller Adapter part # TK57VR this will cut down on splicing into the vehicle.

Which Way Should Diode Point on Highlander for Install of Brake Controller

Yes you need the diode arrow to point towards the brake controller. That will allow the voltage to travel into the controller but not backfeed back on to the Highlander in any way. If you need a diode we have the part #RM-690.

It does sound like the brake output circuit is not connected to a 12 volt power source that only sees voltage when the brake is applied. I would verify both the connection to the circuit and that the circuit has voltage when it needs to have it.
