Replacing 5 on 5 Lug Pattern Idler Hub With a 5 on 4-1/2 Lug Pattern Idler Hub on Utility Trailer

I recently aquired some brand new wheels and tires from a friend for that have a 5x4.5 bolt pattern. Problem is that my utility trailer tire/wheels have a 5x5 bolt pattern. My trailer could probably use some new bearings anyway so my question is can I just by any new 5x4.5 hubs/kit set and slap em on there to make this work with my current setup? Have also heard about wheel adapters but dont know if it will work for me or if that is even a good idea anyway. If i should get new hubs what part number is it. Thank you in advance for your expert advice.

I recommend replacing your hub as if you used an adapter it would move the wheels and tires out from the hub which will often cause issues with fenders and tire clearances on a trailer.
Your 5 on 5" hub like # AKIHUB-550-35-K are generally only used on 3,500lb trailer axles.
There are 2 hub types available with the 5 on 4-1/2" lug pattern and the same bearing and grease seal sizes of the 5 on 5" hub. An E-Z Lube Hub Assembly # 84545UC1-EZ for spindles that have the grease zerk for adding grease to the bearings. Or the Basic Hub Assembly # 84545BX that fits spindles that do not have the grease zerk.
I do recommend confirming your current bearing and grease seal sizes by either identifying the parts used on that axle through the manufacturer serial number, or by pulling apart one of your current hubs to find the bearing sizes in your hub.
Both the hubs that I recommended will have Inner Bearings # L68149, Outer Bearings # L44649 and Grease Seal # 58846.
Please let me know if you find different size bearings or need help finding the sizes with your axle serial number.
