Can I us the shank and ball without the WD bars for lighter loads?

While you can still use the Blue Ox 2-Point Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU75FR without the weight distribution bars, I recommend using a lighter set of spring bars. You can use the Replacement Spring Bars # BLU94XR with a trailer that has 400-600lbs of tongue weight. Or the Replacement Spring Bars # BLU44XR for a tongue weight between 600-800lbs. This will allow you to maintain a level ride and the sway control to stay safe while you are towing.
A set of Replacement L-Brackets w/ Mounts # BLU72QR will allow you to leave the mounts on your different trailers to make it easier towing different trailers.
