Question:
Hi. I have a 2021 Subaru Forester Premium and I want to add on a 2inch Kuat trailer bike carrier. What hitch would you recommend? I am interested in maximizing ground clearance while maintaining simplicity in rack attachment - its a heavy bike rack. I like the look of matte finish. It wont dirt and scratches as much as a glossy finish would. I also like the idea having the hitch flush or under the bumper. I dont want to walk into it, or elongate the car. I also like the aesthetics of simplicity, less is more. thanks for your help. What are the difference in regard tot he above with Curt or Draw Tite? Thanks for the guidance!

Hi Chris,
We can definitely get you set up with an excellent hitch for your Kuat bike carrier!
Since you mentioned liking the matte black finish (I’m a fan too, it really gives that nice OEM look), I’d recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Matte Black Finish - Class III - 2" # e83ZR. It offers 14-1/2" of ground clearance, 525 pound tongue weight (great for a bike rack and some bikes), has that sleek matte black finish, and is actually manufactured by Curt, so it’s essentially identical to the Curt # C13409, just with the different branding and finish.
Another option is the Draw-Tite # 76271, which has the same specs but comes from a different manufacturer.
There is one that is going to give you an extra 1/2" of clearance, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 306-X7391, it cost quite a bit more than the others for just an extra 1/2", the tongue weight is still the same at 525 pounds.
If it were me, I’d go with the etrailer # e83ZR, it checks all the boxes, including that matte black finish.
So, what do you think, ready to go with the etrailer hitch?
