Weight Distribution Hitch for Travel Trailer with 5000lb GVWR and 430lbs TW

Updated 03/31/2021 | Published 03/29/2021

Question:

I just ordered a 23foot total length TT with a GVWR of 5000lbs with a TW of 430lbs. I have a 2018 F150 4X4 with a 3.5L Twin Turbo V6 that did not come with a factory tow package. However I did install one of your Class IV hitches with a 10,000 rating item C14017 and one of your brake controllers with associated 7-pin wiring harness. The original TW for my truck was 500 lbs but that was with the factory-installed bumper trailer hitch. After adding your hitch I believe it is now 1200 lbs WD TW. My question is, what WD Hitch with sway control would be a good fit for the above truck/trailer combo? I was looking at the Reese Weight Distribution System w Shank - Round Bar - 11,500 lbs GTW, 1,150 lbs TW but want to make sure this isnt too much for my setup.

The Reese # RE44FR is really to much for your trailer. It's more than double that of what your Travel Trailer will require. You want the weight distribution hitch to match your trailer weights, not your maximum towing weights of your truck.

For your Travel Trailer I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37060ET. It is rated for up to 6,000lbs which fits your weight. Your dry tongue weight is 430lbs but this will increase close to the 600lb limit that this hitch has once you begin to add your gear and supplies.

I recommend a set of Sway Bracket Jackets # EQ95-01-5150 to reduce the amount of noise that you get while driving and extend the life of your hitch.
