I do have a way you can carry 3 bikes on your 2008 Honda Pilot but you cannot use a trunk mount because the vehicle is unable to support the weight at the point where the carrier must be placed.
What I recommend, and what will be the safest and most secure way to carry bikes, is to use a trailer hitch and hitch mount bike racks. For your 2008 Honda Pilot the most popular hitch is # 75599. This is a 2 inch hitch that will allow you many options for a bike rack. I have linked instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you.
The most popular 3 bike rack is the Swagman Trailhead, # S63365. It can tilt down and features anti-sway cradles. I have linked a video review of this rack (it shows the 4-bike version but the features will be the same).
A trailer hitch is also useful for accessories like cargo carriers and towing. Having a rack on a hitch also keeps the bikes off of the vehicle unlike a trunk mount rack. If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame tube that goes straight across then I recommend using a bike adapter bar # 64005 to carry those bikes more level and provide better ground clearance. I have included a link to a video showing how the adapter works.
