Question:

Toyota dealer tells me that he has to cut a piece of the rear plastic to install this on my 2020 highlander hybrid and that it will require an additional $140 in parts to install ? Is this true. Looks to me like install for hybrid and non hybrid is the same and does not require any cutting . If I have to cut out a piece of the lower plastic to install on hybrid that might be an issue for me. Is the dealer just trying to add to labor cost or add parts I do not need.

This Curt # C99FR Hitch is verified to fit your 2020 Toyota Highlander. There is some minor trimming on a plastic under body panel located underneath the vehicle between the back bumper and the spare. It is a simple procedure that most of our customers do with tin snips. The trimming is the same for Hybrid and Non-Hybrid models. I have included a link to a video showing the entire installation. At the 11:40 mark you can see the panel and the trimming. All the parts needed to install this hitch are included.

Perhaps your dealer is selling you a trailer lights wiring harness? If you intend to tow a trailer you will need a wiring harness. Many people find it convenient to install the harness while they are already under their vehicle installing the hitch. For your Highlander I recommend the Curt # C76CR T-Connector 4 Pole harness. The connectors easily install behind the rear lights.

If you are towing you will also need a tow ball and ball mount. I have attached a link to our Ball Mount FAQ to help you determine which you may need.
