Question:
Hi, I have a 2007 BMW X3, and Im installed a hitch for the first time, so Im quite new to this. I was curious what the difference is between item # C59496 and item # C59236. Im intending to haul a small boat trailer under 1000lbs combined if that is relevant. Thanks!

Both of the Curt wiring kits you referenced are a fit for your 2007 BMW X3 but the part # C59236 is a higher amp rated version. It is rated for 5 amps for the stop/turn circuit and 7.5 for the running lights. Whereas the # C59496 is rated for 3 amps and 6 amps respectively.
What this means is that the higher rated version would withstand trailer wiring shorts better before damaging itself.
