Question:

I have a 2020 GMC double cab Sierra with a short bed. What is the best product that you sell for carrying an 18’ Hobie Tandem Island? I pull a travel trailer and want to travel with this Hobie. Thank you

When fully rigged, an 18 foot Hobie Tandem Island will weigh up to 240 lbs depending on the specific model, according to my research. Since you'll be towing a travel trailer already, and the vehicle roof wouldn't have the strength to carry that type of weight, a trailer or a roof mounted rack wouldn't be a good solution. Your best bet would be to use a ladder rack like # 3371501680 from Buyer's Products. The rack has an 800 lb capacity, so it'll handle the boat with no problem. The rack is reasonably priced and is a no-drill installation that clamps to the tops of the bed sides.

To protect your kayak, I'd recommend installing some kayak pads on the ladder rack crossbars like # MPG314 from Malone. The pads are sold in pairs, and are 25 inches long.
