Can the Loops on the Curt Front Hitch for a 2020 Honda Ridgeline Be Used for Pulling

Updated 10/29/2025 | Published 10/08/2020

Question:

Are the loops on the sides of this hitch strong enough for attaching a strap for vehicle recovery as the chain loops on the rear hitch often are, or is a shackle hitch or similar required? This would be for general recovery, i.e. sliding off the road in a snow storm, and not true off-roading.

Yes, the loops on the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C31082 for a 2020 Honda Ridgeline can be used for vehicle recovery. That is actually their purpose sense there would be no need for safety chains on a front mount hitch.

Is there PSI on the loops on the front hitch? You said they would be OK for rescue, do you know the strength of the loop? I am thinking of cutting the receiver part off to fix the clearance issue and have the loops for rescue contact points.

@JL Good morning. Curt just got back to me and said there is no specific weight rating/limit on those loops, so we don't have much to go off of. In the past we've been comfortable saying the loops are strong enough for vehicle recovery, and I still stand by that. Just keep in mind there technically is no weight rating on them.
