In order to use a wireless brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part 90250 (Discontinued) or Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 (Recommended) you can indeed use a 4 to 7-way adapter, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L is perfect for this as it comes with everything you need.
In regards to installation; you simply plug the two 4-ways in together, ground the white wire, and run a power wire to the battery. The Tekonsha Prodigy RF and Curt Echo only need 12 volt power and some sort of trigger (brake lights) in order to function properly since they are proportional which means they work off an inertia sensor.
