Replacing Converter Panel in InTech Horizon Travel Trailer with Lithium Compatible Unit

Updated 04/02/2025 | Published 02/21/2020

Question:

If I am purchasing an InTech Horizon travel trailer with the PD4135K Power Center, what is the correct replacement if I want to change to lithium batteries? If I understand correctly, having a power center that is not intended for lithium means that lithium batteries cant fully charge. Are there other issues too?

Lithium batteries do require higher voltages to charge than standard batteries which is why the # PD4135K wouldn't work for them. The closest matching converter would be the # PD404KA which will be a bit larger psychically and has a higher amperage rating at 45 amps but it would work really well with your Lithium batteries.

It is my understanding that the Intech Sol Horizon has a lithium switch on the converter to change to lithium charging? Is that not the case?

@DaveS We don't carry that brand of inverter but from what I found online it does appear to be lithium compatible.

Do I need a DC/DC charger to protect my alternator?

@DaveS We have BCDC chargers like the Redarc part # RED96FR but what exactly are you trying to do?

I am converting my travel trailer to lithium batteries. Pulling it with my 2024 3/4 ton GMC AT4.

@Dave To charge them from GMC then a BCDC charger is the way to go. If you want to charge them from a shore power outlet you'd want something like the # PD4135K. If you have a converter now you'd want to make sure it's lithium compatible.
