Question:
Good Morning Etrailerians. I really want to flat tow my 2020 GMC Canyon 4WD and I found out the battery has to be disconnected to flat tow it. Why is that? I have the Blue ox patriot and I don't know how its possible to use without a vehicle battery. What the heck?

The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali 4WD battery does need to be disconnected before flat towing it behind your motor home because there is an electronic accessory or feature in the Canyon that drains the battery while flat towing so it needs to be disconnected.
Don't worry, it is still possible to use the Blue Ox Patriot Supplemental Braking System part # BLU37TR or others braking systems that utilize the 12V outlet of your vehicle by adding a 12 Volt Outlet Kit part # RM-9332 which wires directly to the vehicle battery. You will need a charge line to keep the battery from draining still. The charge line Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-156-25 will keep the battery trickle charged from the motor home's battery.
I also recommend to add the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System part # RM-766 so you can quickly disconnect the battery when flat towing instead of pulling the wires each time which can get tiresome. The Roadmaster Automatic Battery disconnect gives you a switch to flip to disconnect the battery. How convenient is that!
