Comparing EcoHitch Trailer Hitches for 2018 and 2019 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
Published 11/11/2019 >
Question:
Thank you for the assistance. Are the bolting patterns the same between the two models? It appears that the hitch tube has been redesigned in 2019, there is no opening toward the front of the vehicle. Can you speculate on the reason for the redesign? Is the vertical distance from the bolt pattern to hitch opening any different between the two models?

Yes, the mounting bolt patterns are similar between the EcoHitch # 306-X7266 for a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon and the EcoHitch # 306-X7601. With that being said, the hitch receiver for the # 306-X7266 sits about 1/4" to 3/8" lower than the receiver for the # 306-X7601 both of these are a confirmed fit for your 2018 Outback Wagon.
Even though it looks like the back of the # 306-X7266 is opened, the photo is a little misleading because there is only a little bit of the back of the receiver that is visible which is why you see light from the back (see attached photos). I'm not sure why they changed the design of the receiver but it doesn't have any structural significance.
Attached are installation videos for both trailer hitches that you can check out. If you let me know what you plan on using the trailer hitch for I can make some recommendations for accessories for you.
