Features to know about

Keep the Rear of Your Vehicle Clean: Hidden Cross Tube Design

This hitch keeps a low profile. The cross tube mounts behind the rear bumper so only the 2" x 2" receiver shows underneath. The hidden setup keeps the back of your vehicle looking clean and factory-finished instead of bulky or industrial. It’s a simple way to add utility without changing the look of your ride.

Strong Enough for Daily Use: Class III Rating with 3,500 lbs GTW and 525 lbs TW

With a 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight rating and 525 lbs tongue weight, this Class III hitch is built for everyday towing and hauling. It’s ready for small campers, utility trailers, bike racks, or cargo carriers. The 2" receiver fits the most common accessories, so your existing racks and mounts will likely work right out of the box.

Simple Bolt-On Install: No Drilling or Welding Needed

Installation doesn’t require fabrication work or special tools. The hitch bolts directly to existing points on the frame using basic hand tools like screwdrivers, sockets, and a torque wrench. Since there’s no drilling or welding, you can get it installed in a driveway or garage with confidence from the start.

Built to Last: Alloy Construction with Powder Coat Finish

The aluminum, steel, and stainless steel alloy construction delivers a sturdy yet lightweight hitch body. The materials are durable and made from recycled sources for an eco-friendly build. A black powder coat finish resists rust and holds up to road grime and weather exposure, keeping it looking sharp over time while meeting SAE J684 towing safety regulations.

It's a little more involved as far as instalation is concerned but the final results are worth the effort.I spent a day and took my time to be careful not to break any clips or scratch the bumper cover. I hardwired my flat 4 trailer connection outside next to the reciever.

Easy to install thanks for the DIY video tutorial for the 2019 Subaru Outback. The hitch is great quality. Took me about 4 hours to install, but I took my time and didn’t have tools to cut bumper. So had to take my time cutting it with a blade.

For the bolt torque settings, I used 42ft-lbs (57 N m) which is what I found in forums. Seems to be holding pretty great!
by:
Excellent hitch. And fairly easy to install all things considered. Glad my neighbor had a torque wrench though. I wouldn’t have had it nearly as tight as it needed to be. I used my jack stand to lift the hitch up another 1/4” to give me as much clearance as I could get as I have really steep driveway. Bumper fit on perfectly even with the lifted hitch. So now even with the 1up bike rack I have plenty of room to get up and in my driveway. IndFor reference I have a 2019 3.6 limited Outback. No lift. Stock tires and rims. I’m pretty happy with the purchase. Only downside was that e-trailer wouldn’t take the full amount of a gift credit card I had. But oh well.

Still awesome and rock solid a year later. A little bit of surface rust but that’s it.

The finishing on it was not great allready hard signs of corrosion on couole of scratches areas. Had to spray 4 coats of rust inhibitor. Process to installation is not super hard. The hardest part is removing and reinstalling the bumper. Also doing the cut out on the bumper was little frustrating but thay has nothing to do with the product.

This hitch has been flawless & has allowed me to expand my adventures with the Family. I have it mounted to a Subaru Outback & I primarily use it to hold my 1UP USA bike rack. I routinely have 4 bikes on the back & never have any issues on or off road.

The hitch receiver come damage....
by:
Excellent trailer hitch. Instructions provided by eTrailer are thorough and extremely helpful for installing this bumper.
One improvement about the installation. There is a piece of high density of Subaru factory styrofoam between the underlying existing metal bumper and the plastic bumper cover/cowling. To install the hitch AND keep the styrofoam (which is important for both impact safety and structural support of the plastic cowling), the styrofoam must be "shaved" by about 3/16" to accommodate the hitch fitting between the existing metal bumper and the chassis. The best tool that I found for accomplishing this is a surfboard shaping rasp.

Fastest shipping!

Quick shipping and very easy installation (followed the video instructions). Looks great on the car, snug up against the bottom of the bumper to maximize ground clearance. Great!

2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
For my Subaru 2019 3.6R I had to measure my bumper a few times to make sure I wasn't crazy. The photo document that ships with the bumper would make it seem like you need to cut the bumper in a slightly different location. Measure twice. In my case I cut my bumper slightly differently than the photo but exactly to the measurements specified. In order to get the trim piece to fit exactly I had to shave down part of the bumper material with a radial sander tool.

Really easy install, great instructions. I think I had it all done in two hours.
by:
Instructional video was of great help in taking the required sections of the car
apart. The hitch fit perfectly. The welds and material are top notch. The powder
coat was excellent. It did only take a couple hours to do. This hidden hitch is worth
the extra cost over the one which hangs down below the bottom of the rear facia.
The only thing I did different was on the cut of the bumper facia where the hitch
pokes through. Theirs was larger than it needed to be. I cut a rectangle just a little
larger than the hitch itself and slid the bumper in upon assembly. It took a bit of
measuring, and re-measuring to make sure the cut was going to be in the right
place because you only have one shot. Also, I reused the foam which goes
between the actual bumper and the plastic rear facia. There was space for it so
I put it back in.

After a year of usage I found this hitch to be very rigid. No flex at all. Also, no surface rust at all on the receiver. Very happy.

This thing is sturdy and clean. A must have for anyone hauling a bike rack, camping gear, or anything that requires a Class III hitch. I love it.

Bullet proof product and wouldnt hesitate to purchase for my next car. Also, Etrailer provided excellent customer service!

This hitch was easy to install. The video directions for my specific vehicle were good and easy to follow. It didn't require any drilling or alterations to the vehicle. I like that the hitch is out of sight when it is not in use. I put the etrailer rubber hitch cover on it when not in use, and you have to look really hard to tell that there is even a hitch back there.
by:
I really like this hitch. I only use it to haul bikes with a receiver bike rack. When bike rack it not on the car, I barely notice the car even has a hitch.
by:
2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
This 2" hitch bolted onto my 2019 Outback exactly like what was shown in the installation video. I'll be using it for a bike rack and maybe pulling a trailer in the future. I like how it tucks under the bumper and doesn't stick out. Looks factory. My only (tiny) issue is that in the video it shows cutting the notch out of the underside of the bumper with tin snips. That worked great until it didn't. Along one side of the cut-out the plastic was much thicker and tin snips couldn't cut it. I broke out my Dremel and cut off the excess plastic, which was quick and easy. Overall, superb product.

Just completed a 2200 mile move with my Outback towing a 6X12 (not the size I reserved, but I digress) UHaul. Hitch and wiring performed flawlessly. I have full confidence the hitch will outlast the car. Great products, great service.

2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
This went on a 2019 Outback. The directions were for earlier models, but everything was identical. The video for 2016-2018 Outbacks was the same process for the 2019. My guess is that the bolt/ hole pattern is slightly different on the 2019. It took longer than I expected, because the little plastic retainers and guides below the taillights were very tight and difficult to disengage without breaking them. Also, I was able to keep the foam piece on the bumper and still install the fascia. Installed, it looks identical to the pics for 2016-2018 models.
by:
2019 Subaru Outback Wagon
I have a 2019 Outback. I consider myself a slightly above average gear-head with (mostly) proper tools. My observations:
1) I referenced the video for the 2017 Outback, and found it very accurate for the 2019. I got my hitch installed, along with an electrical harness, in a couple of hours in my garage.
2) My Subie has optional mud guards in the wheel wells. You need to take these off before trying to remove the rear bumper fascia! Three Philips head screws along the edge of the wheel well. One push-pin inside the wheel well. One push-pin along the bottom of the fender. Removing the mud guard reveals a push-pin in the bumper fascia that you need to remove in order to get the fascia off.
3) A deep socket really helps when you are trying to unbolt the bumper beam. A 9/16" socket works just as well as a 14 mm when removing/installing the bolts.
4) I used a Dremel tool with a cutting wheel to cut out space under the bumper fascia to accommodate the new receiver. Used pliers with flat jaws to crimp the trim material provided onto the rough edge.
I'm really liking the minimalist appearance of the finished receiver installation!
by:
Solid and well-built. Installation using etrailer videos was very straightforward. Took about 2 1/2 hours being careful to check each step. I did break a few of the retaining pins (which I expected) and fortunately have some extras from prior projects.
by:
The items ordered took a little bit to arrive but never the less everything went great. The installation was simple and the type of hitch i purchased flows with my rear Bumper Cover and is basically UN-noticeable. I couldn't be more pleased.

Thank you

  • Best Hitch Recommendations for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
For your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon the Class III hitch I would recommend is the EcoHitch part # 306-X7601 as the overall winner. It has the higher Class III towing capacities, doesn't require the stabilizer strap when carrying a bike rack like the Curt, but also because it only has the hitch opening that hangs down below the bumper so it's the least visible. It is the most expensive though so the next best option is the Draw Tite part # 75673 which is still a great hitch but it has a visible...

Hey A; the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # 306-X7601 is compatible with vertical bike racks. This has a 525 lb max tongue weight which should be enough for the Lolo. However, I'm not seeing anything on specific receiver depth requirements. Does your bike rack require a specific depth past the center of the hitch pin hole? I don't have one out in the warehouse right now but I would be happy to check with EcoHitch.

The EcoHitch part # 306-X7601 is a nice alloy construction so it does resist rusting however, the Curt is powder coated to prevent corrosion as well. The one thing EcoHitch normally has going for it is that is usually the only option for a hitch with a concealed crosstube.
