Quick Tips:
When you store your trailer, be sure to keep the pin plugged into the breakaway switch. If the pin's removed for an extended period of time, dirt and moisture can get into the switch and cause corrosion that could keep it from activating when you need it.
A breakaway system needs to be able to apply the trailer brakes fully for at least 15 minutes. In general, the heavier your trailer, the higher amperage battery you'll need for the breakaway.

Install went great, battery ships at about 8vdc but will trickle charge with the included charger (off the truck when trailer connected). What I liked was that the charger and battery are pre wired. It also comes with an extra charger in the box. Kudos to curt. Thanks. 3240133

During the upgrade of my dual-axle, 4500-lb trailer to disc brakes and "electric over hydraulic" acutator, I needed to install a breakaway kit on the trailer tongue. The Curt Trailer Breakaway kit fit the dimensions and the 5Ah battery provides enough power to actuate the EOH system. 3500657
the battery box mounting holes matched the holes already in the trailer (tandem axle gooseneck utility), so that saved some effort. the hole spacing on the short side is 3 1/4", not 3 1/2" indicated in the image on the website. perfect replacement for the original breakaway system when the trailer was purchased new 8 years ago. 3609768

You are correct that the Red wire from the Charger for Curt Soft Trac I and II Trailer Breakaway Kits # C52025 is connected to the Battery, the White is connected to Ground, the Blue is connected to the Breakaway Switch. The Black wire that you are asking about will be spliced into the 12V Power wire on your trailer. This should be the wire connected to the pin in the 11 O'clock position on your trailer's 7-Way connector (see attached picture). Replacement Battery Box for Curt Soft Trac I Trailer Breakaway Kits - Side Load # C52027 has outside dimensions of 5" long x 3-3/4" wide x 3-3/8" tall and will fit the UB1250 style battery we carry which has dimensions of 3-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide x 4" tall. This is part # C52023.

You have to have a breakaway battery kit like the Curt # C52028 for the breakaway brake function on your trailer. This is one of the things that the highway patrol will actually check for to make sure that you are pulling your trailer safely.

To test that you that the break away switch on your 2016 Airsteam 23 FB is working correctly you will need connect the trailer to your trailer hitch, unplug the 7-way connector, remove the pin from the switch, and then try to drive forward.
The tires should rotate a little and then apply the brakes hard enough to not allow the wheels to spin freely.

You are definitely on the right track. All of the parts you mentioned would work well together and would give a great braking solution for your trailer.
The assemblies part # AKEBRK-7L-SA and # AKEBRK-7R-SA will fit your trailer and will work great. The Curt breakaway system part # C52028 is a great system to use, the Demco coupler part # DM13203-95 will provide you with a 2-5/16 inch ball coupler.

The breakaway system uses a normally open switch, so power won't be delivered to the trailer brakes unless the switch is pulled. The power is delivered by an on-board battery. You'll only see power on the wire from the switch to the battery, not on the other leg of the switch unless the pin has been pulled which closes the circuit from the battery to the trailer brakes.
