Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Looking for Hub for 1999 Jayco Qwest 10
Hey Ryan, most likely what you have is a 2,000 lb axle and the correct replacement hub would b the part # AKIHUB-440-2-G-1K which also has the correct 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you need but we still would want to verify to be sure. Since you don't have the bearing numbers you would need to measure the diameter of the spindle where the bearings ride. If the diameter is exactly 1 inch this would be the correct replacement hub. Most likely this is what you have but let me know either way.

  • Does Trailer Hub Seal Need to Contact Side of Spindle
Hey KDM, it's normal for there to be some space between outside portion of the grease seal and the spindle. The seal is not supposed to push up against the spindle on the outside portion of it. It's only really for sure supposed to contact the spindle where it rides on it. Have you tried installing it as-is and had any leak issues?

  • Availability Of Hub For Short Spindle
Hello Zach, thanks for reaching out. We do have hubs that fit a 1" diameter straight spindle, but nothing for a 3-1/2" long short spindle. This kind of spindle is obsolete. All of the hubs we offer are more like 4-1/4" long so they will not work. The only solution in this case would be to replace your spindles with something more modern. This requires welding and special equipment though. An even easier solution would be to just replace the axle entirely.

  • Spindle Compatible With Trailer Idler Hub Assembly AKIHUB-440-2-1K
The Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 - L44643 Bearings - Pre-Greased # AKIHUB-440-2-1K won't fit your trailer spindle as it will be too long. The reason is, this hub is designed to work on BT8 spindles, which are longer than what you have. The only solution we can offer is to replace your short and older spindles with a new one that will work with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-440-2-1K, which is the BT8 Spindle for 2,000 lb Trailer Axles # TRU59FR. • What Hub do I Need to Replace My DICO 40825 Hub on My Boat Trailer?
Hello Mike, I am happy to get you into the right trailer hub. I am not able to find any information on the DICO 40825. From the measurements you provided it sounds like you have a straight spindle so both your inner and outer bearing are 1.063" I.D. making them bearing # L44649, which means you have a 2,000 pound axle. So you will want the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K which is a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern (for 4 on 4 bolt pattern # AKIHUB-440-2-G-2K). The...

  • How to Find Replacement for 4 Lug Hubs on Utility Trailer
Hi David; we don't have a way for you to mail it to us so you will have to identify the hub to find the right replacement. Identifying the hub is pretty easy and will save you money since you won't have to pay to ship a hub. Based on the bolt pattern, I'm sure you have a straight spindle that uses either # L44649 inner and outer or # L44643 inner and outer bearings. Take a look at your bearings to see if they have part numbers stamped in the side. If not, you can measure the inner diameter...

  • Recommended Grease for Repacking Bearings on CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100
I spoke with my contact at CE Smith regarding the Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100 that you reference. She stated that they use an NLGI # 2 red grease like the LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390. This will be compatible with the grease currently in the hub, but I do still recommend removing as much grease from the hubs as you can when repacking, as it's possible that the old grease may be contaminated from moisture. I have attached a great article on repacking trailer bearings...

  • Replacement Idler Hub For 1964 Holsclaw Boat Trailer With 1" Diameter Spindle
It sounds like you are needing the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100. This hub fits on a 1" spindle and has the same 4 bolt lug pattern with the threaded bolts that screw into the hub. The grease seal used has the same 1.249" inner diameter as the 47370 that you have on your current hub. It is designed to fit a BT8 Spindle # TRU94FR that is 4-1/4" long on the 1" diameter portion of the spindle.

Yes, the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assemblies # CE13100 and # CE13110 will both fit on a BT8 Spindle # TRU94FR. The only difference between these 2 hubs is the Hub Assembly # CE13100 is threaded for wheel bolts and the Hub Assembly # CE13110 has wheel studs and lug nuts.

  • How To Determine Which Spare Hub Assembly Is Correct For Spartan Sport Boat Trailer
I would be happy to help! Unfortunately we do not have a breakdown of the specific components for your Spartan Sport Trailer, so you will need to remove one of your hub assemblies. With the hub assembly removed you will need to look on the face of both the inner and outer bearings for the bearing number. This will be stamped in the face of the bearings as shown in the included picture of the # L44649. If your bearing numbers are not readable you will need to use digital calipers # PTW80157...

  • Hub length of CE Smith Trailer 13110 and 13100
I went out to the warehouse and found that the CE Smith Trailer Hub Assembly # CE13100 measured about 4-1/4" but that was with the plastic still wrapped around it. If you took the plastic away it would probably measure closed to 4-1/8". The assembly # CE13110 that you referenced is the same exact hub with the only difference being that it uses wheels studs and the part # CE13100 uses wheel bolts.

  • Measuring the Bolt Pattern of a Trailer Hub and is there a 4 on 3 Inch Bolt Pattern
Are you measuring from one bolt to the next or from one across the hub to the opposite one? Because on a 4 on 4 hub if you measure from one to the next you will get about 2.8 inches. But if you measure across it is 4 inches like in the picture I have included. If you can tell me the inner and outer bearing numbers of the hubs you have I can make some recommendations for new hubs.

  • Is a 16 Oz. Can of Grease Enough to Repack Four Wheels on a Car Trailer
When repacking your bearings it takes very little grease, so a 14 oz. cartridge or 16 oz. can will be more than enough for your four wheels. If you aren't sure which grease to buy, I recommend the LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390. This is heavy-duty, premium grease for the toughest lubricating jobs on the biggest, heaviest equipment. • Selecting New Hub to Replace Old Hub That Used Bolts
Strictly speaking you could change your hubs by installing threaded studs that would accept lug nuts in place of the bolts that currently secure your wheels. But honestly, I would just replace the hubs since yours are fairly old at this point. The keys to selecting new hubs for your boat trailer are 1) matching up their weight rating to the axle rating; 2) matching the wheel bolt pattern, in this case 4-on-4; and 3) matching up the bearings used in the old and new hubs.
