Question:

Hello - I would like to install a brake controller for my rv. Do the E-350s have a plug and play system or do I need to install a whole get-up as if I was installing into a SUV? The vehicle dolly Im towing has electric breaks. Also, I would like to replace the harness connector in the back to a new 7 and 4 pin connector - what do I need for that? Lastly, I am towing a vehicle dolly and plan on putting magnetic lights of vehicle being towed - the lights are 4 pin and the trailer is 7 pin, can I connect those at same time? This is why Im asking for a new 7 and 4 pin connector.

Yes, there is a brake controller port on most 2012 Ford E-350's. If you take a look under the driver dash up by the emergency brake pedal you should see a four pin plug which is used for this purpose. I recommend the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3034-P. The Tekonsha Primus IQ is a great all around brake controller that has most of the same features as other top tier options like boost settings, safeguards, etc. but without all the extra bells and whistles you pay for. The Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers then makes for a plug and play install. I have attached a video to assist with finding the plug.

In order to add a 4 and 7-way wiring harness we need to first determine if you have the Class I Tow Package with a 16-pin plug under the rear bumper or the Class II Tow Package which has both 16-pin and 4-pin plugs under the rear bumper. If you have the Class I Tow Package then you need the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole part # 37185 but if you have the Class II Tow Package then you need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118261 and the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV part # HM40950 The rest of the wires for the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole should be already ran to the rear bumper somewhere in this area.

The 4 and 7-way trailer connection points can both be used at the same time on the above harnesses.
