Question:

Hi we have an older Jeep and never use it so we are contemplating selling it and getting my wife’s 2019 Ford Expedition tow ready It has the 4 low option Either debating that or dumping the old Jeep and my truck and getting a gladiator Question is... Will the expedition rack up miles Our Jeep doesn’t and would assume new gladiator won’t either

I reached out to a local Ford dealership and they said that flat towing your 2019 Ford Expedition should not put miles on the vehicle.

With that being said, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter to flat tow your vehicle.

For your application I recommend using the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524457-5 along with the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-676 and the Combo Kit # RM-9284-2 mainly because of the tow bar. The Nighthawk All-Terrain comes with integrated safety cables and coiled wiring that when paired with the combo kit gives you all of the wiring you need. The tow bar also has LED lights on the sides so that other people on the roads can clearly see that you are flat towing your Expedition when it is dark outside. Please note that base plates tend to require some modification when installed. For your case the spoiler, air dam, grille, or plastic fascia may require some modification.

When it comes to a braking system I highly recommend the SMI fixed systems because they stay installed on your vehicle and you hardly recognize they are there because they are out of the way. For a motorhome with hydraulic brakes you need the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 but if you have air brakes on your motorhome you need the Air Force One # SM99243 instead (you will need the Relay Kit # RM-88400 for the air brake system).

A lot of flat towing setups might require the use of a high-low adapter to keep the tow bar level while towing a vehicle. I have linked a helpful article for you to reference to see if this applies to you. If it does then I have also linked our selection of adapters for you to filter through.
