Installing Vehicle Side Trailer Connector to Trailer Deep Cycle Battery to Power 12V Interior Lights

Published 02/05/2019

Question:

Thank you! Would the same also apply to Hopkins part 20022?

The Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector with Universal Pigtail Harness - Vehicle End # HM47210 can be connected directly to your trailer battery. You will run the Red wire to the positive terminal on your battery, but the white ground wire will connect to your trailer frame, just like the negative terminal of your battery does. You just want to make sure that connection to your frame is free of rust or corrosion for a bare metal to metal connection.

That will give you the 12V power connection you are seeking so you can plug your trailer wiring connector into it to run your interior lights directly off that deep cycle trailer battery.

The Hopkins 20022 will work for that same application. We don't carry that particular harness, but you may want to consider the 4 foot long Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket w/ Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket # PK11898, Tow Ready # 20024, or Bargman # 50-87-004. If you want even more length, you can use the 7 foot # 20023. If you want a custom length, I recommend the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV Blade-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End # PK12-707E and Deka Wire - Jacketed 7-Wire # DW04914-1 sold by the foot in custom lengths.
