Comparing Curt And Hopkins Wiring Harnesses For 2011 Volvo XC70

Question:

Hello, I just received my Curt wiring harness. Why is there an additional step of running wires to the rear ceiling light? The other wiring harnesses for my 2011 XC70 do have this connection. Thanks,

Trailer wiring harnesses for your 2011 Volvo XC70 use powered converters to draw the power for the trailer's wiring. This prevents the taillights of your Volvo from having to power the trailer wiring. The Hopkins kit part # HM11143735 that fits your vehicle runs a line to the positive post of the vehicle whereas the Curt part # C56386 instead runs to the interior light. This is HIGHLY unusual but it is what Curt recommends. So you either would need to run a wire to the battery or to the interior light.
