I went over the install instructions for the Curt trailer wiring harness and there is no mention of needing to install the ring terminal that's included. That said the trailer wiring harness I recommend for your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the Curt kit part # C55369 as it has a more reliable converter box.
