Replacement Brake Release Handle Needed for the Husky Brute Electric Trailer Jack # HT87247

Question:

Thank you for your quick reply. I have a neighbor and good friend who is a retired industrial electrician has always keep me from getting into trouble. Is there a safe way release the brake until we can secure the original ? Is the circuit breaker externally mounted? The batteries for the unit are new and fully charged. Are the lights on a separate circuit from the motor? Could the motor toggle switch be the problem? If it is what is the part number and cost.

The only thing special about the included circuit breaker is that it has some wiring included with it for easy splicing. Any 30 amp circuit breaker that you would find at a local electrical/home improvement store, like part # PK54530, is perfectly acceptable.

If the jack hasn't been used very much and the switch wasn't allowing you to operate the jack then that leads me to believe that the battery that powers the jack has been depleted. If the battery is in good working order then the next thing to check would be the wiring. Make sure it isn't damaged or bent anywhere.

Let me know if neither of those solutions work and I can help you troubleshoot some more.

You can actually use a flat head screwdriver to release the brake. I spoke with my contact at Husky who said the replacement handle just extends the brake handle further for easier operation but a flat head screwdriver will do the trick. The circuit breaker can be externally mounted but since it is a part of an electrical circuit and has exposed terminals you will want to install it in a place where it will remain dry. Since the batteries are new you may want to check the ground. Both the motor and the lights receive power through the same wire (so they are kind of on the same circuit) but since the lights are LED they don't require much power to operate. The unit grounds through the mounting hardware so if there is some rust or corrosion you would want to sand it off and make sure that it is a clean, bare metal connection. One of my fellow experts suggested that if your jack has been sitting for quite awhile then it may have just seized up inside a little (like brakes do on a vehicle) so you may just need to break it free with the manual lever.
