Question:

Is it possible for me to get this tire AM30859 mounted on a 4 on 4 white rim? Id like two. My camper has 1900 dry weight, axle is rated at 2200 lbs, tires are load range C. I keep the pressure at 80 psi, speed at 65mph, and minimal loading of gear a few pots and pans and empty water tank. I also repack my bearings regularly. Im still blowing a tire every year. Id like to see if I can get better luck on a Kenda load range D, but have 4 bolts on 4. I destroyed one of my rims with this weekends blowout. I wouldnt mind keeping the other two as spares.

We do not have a load range D tire, like the one on # AM30859, on a 4 on 4 white wheel. But what we do have is # AM30780. This is a 5.30-12 tire on a 4 on 4 white wheel and a load range C tire. The tire is rated for 1,045 pounds at 80 psi.

A tire blowout can be caused by not inflating the tire to the correct psi. If your current tires are also rated for 80 psi, then that would be correct. You always want to inflate the tires to max psi indicated on the tire.

Another possible problem is overload. Putting more weight on the tire than it is capable of will cause excessive heat build up and the tire can fail. Another issue that happens to trailer tires often is that if they are not used regularly and are allowed to sit out in the elements, they can dry rot and that can cause them to fail.

You should also always use tires that have an ST in front of the size. This stands for Special Trailer. Passenger vehicle tires should not be used on a trailer because they cannot handle the vertical load. Trailer tires are made with a thicker side wall to handle more vertical load.

What you can do is get Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire, # AM10130, which is a load range D tire rated for 1,220 pounds at 65 psi, and then get Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel, # AM20122. A local tire shop can mount the tires on the wheels for you. I have included a link to our tire FAQ article for you.
