How to Identify What Lug Nut Pattern a 5 Lug Wheel Has

Updated 11/19/2025 | Published 11/16/2025

Question:

I want to replace my enclosed trailer rims and wheels ST205 /75 S15. The wheel has five lugs but how do I know if it’s a 5 on 4 1/2 or 5 on 5 etc? Does it indicate this on the present tire? I can send you pics of the current rim and tire. Thanks.

Hey Clarence. There's no way to look at a tire or wheel and tell if it's a 5 on 4-1/2 or a 5 on 5 but you can take a real quick measurement to figure it out.

If you'll look at the picture below you'll see a wheel with a red line on it. The measurement will be taken from the center of the left lug nut hole to the farthest edge of the one across from it on the right side.

You can also measure from the center of one lug nut hole to the center of the one closest to it. If you take this measurement and get 2-5/8" the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2.

2-3/4" means the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4.

3" means the bolt pattern is 5 on 5.

3-1/4" means the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2.

The Kenda Karrier KR53 ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire item # KE76JV you were looking at has a 5 on 4-1/2" lug nut pattern.

For a 5 on 5 wheel with a ST205/75R15 tire and wheel, I recommend the Kenda Karrier item # KE26JV.

What style of wheel are you looking for?

@ClarenceE That's interesting. What do you get when you measure center to center to lug nut holes next to each other?
