Question:
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander and have had vehicle to local Toyota Dealer to install electric brake controller. Dealer has informed me that they can not do this as it will cause potential problem with Safety Sense System. Can you comment on this or provide information? Have you installed Electric Brake Controllers on 18 Highlander. Thanks in Advance for your assistance.

The newest Toyota Highlander we've installed a brake controller in is a 2014 model. I attached the install video to this page to show you the processs. The 2014 and 2018 Highlanders are the same generation though so what you see in the install video would be the same as on your vehicle.
Tekonsha (the maker of our nicer brake controllers) has informed us that they have successfully installed brake controllers in your vehicle so I would not anticipate a problem. That said, Toyota is the final authority on their vehicles since they made it, tested it, and would be who would honor the warranty.
You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118449. Install video attached.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is one of our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
