How to Remove the Metal Cam Ball in a Kuat Sherpa Bike Rack Stuck in a Hitch

Question:

The metal ball will not respond to turning the knob. I cannot get the bike rack off the hitch. The rack was put on too far and the end with the metal ball was outside the hitch. When realized the knob was turned counter clockwise to remove and the metal ball will need respond.

I contacted the manufacturer about the problem you are having with your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22G. They provided me with a document with some steps on removing the cam ball. I have included that document for you here.

If you are unable to complete these steps because of the rack being in the hitch or cannot get the ball to remove, please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot this further.

@JoeP I sure can! I double checked with Kuat's website but the installation instructions for the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 item # SH22G and the 1-1/4" item # SH12G are the same. I have linked them below.

I had the same problem as Jim K (original question/post) and these instructions helped me get the rack off my hitch. Now I can't quite get it all put together correctly. Do you have instructions for that? Thanks!

@DavidC We don't have a specific set of instructions for that. Kuat said to basically just reverse these instructions but I am sure you've tried that?

@JamesonC Yep, I am able to put it all back together, but can't get the cam ball situated in the correct place. There's got to be a trick to it, but I haven't been able to figure it out.
