Recommended Sway Control for Trailer weighing 2,000 to 3,000 lbs

Question:
HI I am looking to tow a race car weighing 2000lbs on an open light weight trailer. My concern is speed can I tow the trailer and car and the possibility trailer stating to sway if I exceed a given speed. Will an anti sway bar allow me to drive at a higher speed without the trailer starting to sway? Thanks

Sway can happen at any speed, but you are correct that it can be more of an issue at higher speeds. Crosswinds, passing vehicles, and uneven lanes can be a big issue for trailers that are lightweight or top heavy. Obviously your issue will be the light weight issue. I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control # RP66082. This system will not only help distribute the weight of your trailer tongue as well as any cargo behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle, but also will actively fight to keep your trailer in line with your towing vehicle.
This WD system has a unique sway control with the dual cams and hot rolled trunnion bars to constantly keep force in the pocket to keep the trailer from sway. Other systems help compensate for sway once it has begun. This system actively works to prevent sway.
The other thing you need to consider when traveling with a trailer at higher speed is that trailer tires are speed rated. The max speed is normally printed on the sidewall of your trailer in letter form. If there isn't a speed rating, then the max speed is 65 mph. If the speed rating is L then it is 75 mph max. If it is M, then the max speed is 81 mph. I've attached an article to assist.
