Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE with Tow Package
Published 11/14/2017 >
Question:
I have a factory Tow Hitch on a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe SE Ultimate. Santa Fes with the 6-cylinder engine are capable of towing a 5,000 trailer and come delivered from the factory with a transmission cooler and trailer prep package thats pre-wired for towing whether it has the factory Tow Hitch or not. That way, a dealer can easily add the Tow Hitch at any time. This factory hitch has a 4-wire connector. However, the vehicle has separate amber turn signals and red brake lights. How or why was this vehicle delivered with a 4-wire connector with this light setup? Should or can I convert the 4-wire connector to a 5-wire connector since my trailer has a 5-wire connector?

Expert Reply:
Your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe has the trailer wiring circuits already combined so that the trailer lighting will function. Part of the vehicle's trailer wiring package is that it has the converter already.
So all you need to install a 4-way would be the part # C56332 and then to convert it to a 5-way all you'd need is the part # 20036. The fifth pin and the extra wire would get ran to the reverse light circuit of your Santa Fe.
I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.
