Replacement Lock for a Yakima Skybox Roof Cargo Box

On a Skybox with port and starboard locking mechanisms is it possible to take apart and swap sides? One works and one doesnt. I believe i pushed the handle to hard when it was frozen and stripped something. Handle now unlocks, moves but wont engage the latches.

Usually this break is related to a pin inside the locking mechanism breaking. You can switch sides by removing the locking mechanism and just switching the parts individually.

However, this does mean that the box is overall less secure. You may want to purchase a lock replacement as part # Y8880348 which will replace both sides.

Unfortunately, Yakima does not offer that internal pin as a separate replacement part. If the pin has broken or the mechanism has been damaged internally, the typical solution is to replace the entire latch and lock assembly with part # Y8880348. Before replacing it, though, it may be worth taking the mechanism apart to confirm the pin is actually the issue. Since Doug mentioned the handle was forced while frozen, there's a chance another internal component stripped or broke instead. Out of curiosity, have you opened the mechanism up yet and confirmed the pin is broken, or are you still diagnosing the issue?
