Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Yakima Replacement SkyBox Mounting Clamp. This is going to be a direct replacement from Yakima for the mounting clamp needed to install your Yakima SkyBox cargo box to your roof rack crossbars. This will work with all Yakima SkyBox rooftop cargo boxes, and it's going to be the exact same as the original. So it's going to allow you to quickly and easily install your SkyBox onto your crossbars.

The clamp will slide forward and backward to accommodate your crossbar spread. The cam action levers allow you to easily tighten down your clamps so that your box is gonna be nice and secure to your crossbars. So if your original clamp has become damaged or lost or whatever, for whatever reason you needed to replace it, this is gonna be exactly what you need. That's gonna complete our look for today. High Quality! Used them to retrofit a Thule box. This style of clamping to roof cross bars are the best when trying to attach on a tall vehicle.

PERFECT!!! I recently bought a Yakima SkyBox Pro 21 used and, unfortunately, it did not have all of the parts needed to mount the box on my car. I ordered these replacement mounts and it had EVERYTHING that I needed to LITERALLY get on the road! Thanks etrailer! There is nothing wrong with my 15 year old skybox but after putting it in and off of all our cars over the years, lending it to neighbors, etc., I wanted to be certain that the clamps holding the box and all the gear up on the roof were in perfect shape after all those years. I looked at replacement boxes but why spend the money when the box itself has zero issues? I love that I can get replacement parts to essentially have a new box by replacing the guts without throwing away a perfectly good skybox. I also replaced the lid hinges on the same order. The pandemic caused a rush on Yakima parts with even Yakima support telling me to go to etrailer because Yakima restocks it’s resellers before it’s own inventory. Throughout the wait I received plenty of communication and was sent pieces of my rebuild as they came in. Great service and perfect replacement part.

Yakima no longer makes the exact same part as the one that came on my pod. I called Yakima, and they said this was the proper replacement, but they didn’t have it in stock. They recommended I try etrailer. I easily found it on the etrailer website. Ordering was a breeze. Part arrived earlier than expected and It works perfectly! Couldn’t be happier.

Will Yakima SmarT-Slot Mounting Kit Fit with Older RocketBox System
Hey Craig, thanks for reaching out! The Yakima SmarT-Slot Mounting Kit # Y25AV is only compatible with the newer Yakima roof cargo boxes so you unfortunately won't be able to utilize it with the older RocketBox design. If you're needing to replace the mounting clamp for your older RocketBox then the SkyBox Replacement Mounting Clamp # Y62XR will actually work, according to Yakima. Can I Mount an Older Yakima SkyBox 16 Carbonite Box to The T-Slots on my Roof Rack
Thanks for your question, Bhavin. I couldn't find anything definitive so I reached out to Yakima to get confirmation. They let me know that the Yakima SmarT-Slot Mounting Kit part # Y25AV will not work on the older SkyBox's. The only replacement hardwre available for the older boxes is part # Y62XR. The mounting mechanism is different in the newer SkyBox NX so the mounting hardware wouldn't be interchangeable. Hate to say but, we don't carry anything that would allow you to mount your...

Howdy, Andrew! According to my research your Yakima Spacebooster uses mounting hardware similar to the Replacement Mounting Clamp # Y62XR so it will fit aero-style crossbars just fine. If you can send me some photos of this though, I can confirm if your hardware looks like it will work or not. Correct Replacement for Yakima SkyBox Clamp 8890135
The Replacement Mounting Clamp for Yakima SkyBox Cargo Boxes part # Y62XR is an exact replacement for the Yakima Mounting Clamp 8890135 per Yakima. The only difference is the new design did away with the barrel nut but the bolt size and spacing are the same. Yakima did not have these dimensions to provide unfortunately.

Replacement Parts For Yakima BlackTop Pro Roof Top Cargo Carrier
It does appear you have a Yakima BlackTop Pro cargo carrier. Unfortunately the only replacement part still manufactured for your box is the Replacement Mounting Clamp # Y62XR. You may be able to locate some of the lid supports in good used condition otherwise you may consider a new box like the Yakima CBX # Y66FR. This particular box is 16 cubic feet and allows for operation from either the drivers or passenger side.

Hey Trisha, Yakima only offers one set of replacement hardware for the Skyboxes like you have which would be the part # Y62XR. So this would be what you'd need to use as a replacement. Is it possible you weren't getting the hardware tight enough and that's why the box is moving?
