The factory connector bolted to the bottom of the bed near the rear bumper has an oval shaped connector with 4 flat pins on the top and 4 flat pins on the bottom. For your 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 there is not a connection to factory wiring for the connector you mentioned. My recommendation is to use the Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit with 4 Pole Trailer Connector (Includes Install Kit) # C59496 that is confirmed to work with your truck. I've attached a video of an install on a vehicle just as a reference.
This harness will protect your factory wiring from overload and create an easy connection using the quick-splice connectors. I've attached an article to assist with routing the power wire to your battery.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75362 which is a confirmed fit. For a ball mount, I recommend the Channel Style Adjustable Ball mount - 2" & 2-5/16" Balls - 14,000 lbs # C45900. I recommend the Curt Lock Set for Adjustable Channel-Style Mounts # C23556 to secure your investment.
