Determining if Curt Front Mount Receiver 31302 Will Interfere With License Plate When Upside Down
Updated 05/12/2017 | Published 05/11/2017 >
Question:
Ive read a few QandAs regarding my vehicle and I read that Curt # 31302 can be mounted upside down so that the hitch will come through the front fascia. I have 2 questions regarding that answer: 1 Does it come through the middle of the license plate area? 2 I read that it cant be installed on a Z71, what makes it so?

If you were to install the Curt # 31302 Front Mount Hitch so that it is the "through bumper" instead of "under bumper" configuration you will need to cut out a 3 inch square hole that is located 3-1/2 inches below the top edge of the plastic fascia. If you go out and measure 3-1/2 inches below the top edge of the plastic fascia on your 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche you will be able to determine whether that installation method will interfere with your license plate or not.
Front mount hitches are just like trailer hitch receivers where they will only fit certain year/make/models. Since I don't know the specifics of your Z71 I can't tell you for sure, but if you were to get one for your Avalanche you could hold it up to your Z71 to see what the difference is. You could also let me know the year and make and I could look into it further for you. It could be that your Z71 has a crossmember or some kind of other component that is sitting in the way.
I have also attached an installation video of this hitch being installed on a 2003 Tahoe for you to use as a reference.
