For your 2016 VW Golf, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11412 which is confirmed to fit all 2016 Golf models except the GTI and R models. This hitch has a round tube design and is black gloss powder coated for rust resistance. If you will be using this hitch receiver for accessories like a bike rack or cargo carrier, you will also need the Curt Stabilization Strap # 18050.

If you will be using this hitch receiver for towing, I recommend the Curt Class II Drawbar - 2-5/8" Rise, 3-1/4" Drop - 7-1/4" Long - 3,500 lbs # C45521. This ball mount will work well using the # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch hitch ball option.

For your vehicle wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118646.
