Does Trailer Wiring Harness for 2016 Volkswagen Golf Draw Constant Power
Updated 07/26/2017 | Published 07/25/2017 >
Question:
I bought the 118646 T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector. Question: when the engine is stopped and the car is locked, will this converter shutoff automatically? Or does it turn on automatically when one of the rear lights turns on? What is the current draw in both cases? As you know, it is wired directly to the battery without any switch

Expert Reply:
Unless there is something plugged into the 4-Way trailer connector that is drawing power trailer wiring harness # 118646 for your 2016 Volkswagen Golf will not be drawing any power from the vehicle battery. Think of it like a 12 volt power outlet (cigarette lighter) in a vehicle or a wall outlet. It has power to it all the time (some of them do anyway) but they don't draw any power until something is plugged in and turned on. So in terms of current (amps) there isn't a draw though it will read 12 volts going to the converter box.
