Recommended 7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness For 2011 Ford Ranger With Factory 4-Way

Updated 03/21/2017 | Published 03/20/2017

Question:

I have a 2011 Ford Ranger that has a light towing package with a 4 pin trailer wiring harness. I am picking up a new trailer that has a 7 pin blade wiring harness. Is there an adapter that I can plug into the 4 pin on my truck and hook up the additional battery and brake controller wires into a 7 blade receptacle to hook up to the trailers 7 blade wiring? Thanks

If you have a 7-way trailer connector on your trailer then it probably has brakes and you will need a brake controller in your 2011 Ranger. We have everything you need to get this done.

First, you will need part # ETBC7. This will plug into your 4-way and with additional wiring will give you a working 4-way and 7-way trailer connector.

For a brake controller I recommend the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular because it is easy to install and operate.

I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is run for the # ETBC7 and the brake controller.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
