Curt Trailer Hitch Location When Mounted On 1986 Chevrolet El Camino
Published 01/26/2017 >
Question:
I have a custom 86 elcamino. I want to purchase your trailer hitch but I need to know how far down is the receiver after mounting on the frame. Could you please send me a mechanical dimensional drawing in PDF of your trailer hitch, showing the this offset?

When installing the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C12005, the top of the receiver tube is 1-3/8 inches from the mounting holes the trailer hitch is attached to.
I have attached a page from the installation instructions you can check out that shows where the hitch is installed. There is an EA unit(Bumper shock) on the end of the frame and there are two holes right below the unit. That is where the trailer hitch is attached. The top of the receiver is about an inch or a little more below those holes.
The # C12005 is a Class ll hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
If you have an aftermarket bumper on your 1986 El Camino, the # C12005 hitch will probably not work for you.
