Question:
I have a 2016 VW Touraeg which is pre wired for trailer wiring. I need the receptacle that fits into the prewired socket. How can I determine which of your products will do the job.

Expert Reply:
If your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg came from the factory with trailer wiring already in place, then it is possible that there is a connector on that wiring to allow installation of a trailer socket. Please review the linked image of a round U.S. Car type connector. If this is what you have on the vehicle you can use part # HM40975.
If instead you have bare wires, then use part # HM40975-11998 which includes the socket plus a wiring harness with connector to splice into the factory wires. You'll want to test the wires on the car to confirm their function before making connections; wire colors are not a reliable method to confirm their functions. Use a tester like # 4PTW2993 to confirm what function is carried on each vehicle wire. Use of the tester is demonstrated in the linked video.
If there is a different type of connector on the car, please submit a photo.
