What is the difference between C49480 and 80948? The first is higher and the second is much lower. Why would I buy the first one?

Besides the price difference the only real other difference is that the # C49480 and the # 80948 are made by separate companies. The Curt combo bar is # C49480 and the Tow Ready combo bar is # 80948. Tow Ready is a brand that is owned by a larger parent company named Cequent.
These companies compete with each other in the trailering market so it isn't uncommon to see two similar parts with different pricing.
To answer your question, some customers prefer one brand name over the other and would be willing to pay the price difference to have a part that was made by the company they like.
