Yes, you will remove the brass nut and bolt and the red knob will come off. You should note that the # 8880226 does not come with a new nut (just a washer), so be sure not to lose your current one.

Is it possible your FrontLoader was built after 2016 which would mean you'd need the knob part #8880766 which has a different nut in it and would explain why the older knob #8880266 isn't threading correctly.

To replace the knob on your Yakima FrontLoader #Y02103 you will remove the brass nut and bolt that keep the knob secure. If your FrontLoader was made after 2016 you need the #8880766. If it was made before 2016 you will need the #8880226 instead.
