Question:
Hi! I have a 2015 VW GTI and a Yakima Hitch Bike Rack - Y02424, which itself weighs 31 lbs. Then Id carry 2 bikes for an additional 80 lbs or so. So Id have a total of 110 to 120 lbs on the C11412 hitch. Is that too much? Would I need to strap the Yakima rack and if so, where would a strap attach onto the hatch of the GTI which has no handle or attachment point!

Expert Reply:
Curt requires the use of stabilization strap # 18050 when using trailer hitch # C11412 for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements. This is regardless of the amount of weight that is on the hitch.
There isn't a specific place that you would have to attach the strap to the vehicle. What I recommend is to use the strap with a quick loop # MPG530. Just close the cylinder part inside of the vehicle leaving the strap loop hanging out. Then you can attach the Curt strap to the quick loop so the hook is not pulling on the glass or top spoiler/trim piece.
