Video Transcript for Feature Review Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops for Bow and Stern Tie-Downs

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone Quick Latch T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308. So once you have your kayak in place and you have it strapped down to the roof rack system, you do need bow and stern tie-downs for each end. However, if you don't have any tie-down points underneath or you don't have a hitch in installed in the back, one of the options you can utilize is the quick latch hood loop. So pretty much what these do is create tie-down points for the hooks of your bow and stern tie-downs and they have an end cap on the inside which is closed inside your hatch of your hood or the hatch of your trunk while you tie these down. The end caps are made from a polypropylene and are injection molded to this T-shape for superior fit and durability. This has a load capacity of 150 pounds, come in a quantity of two, and has a one year warranty. When comparing this to other products, two that come up are going to be the Rhino-Rack anchor strap, part number RRRBAS and the Thule Quick Lubes, part number TH530.As far as the most economical choice, that's going to go to the Malone. As far as quantity is concerned, that's going to go to both the Malone and the Thule as it comes with two hood loops or two loops with the Rhino-Rack strap only coming with one.As far as durability is concerned, that's going to go to the Malone as it's made from a harder material. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and show you how they work. We have our two hood loops here on our table.

This is pretty much what you're goin got get with the kit once you buy it.First, to install these, at least for our front portion of our tie-down, we're going to have to pop the hood open. With our hood open we have to find a good spot for our quick lash to set into place. We found that this area here will work just as long as it's in a spot where it's not going to get crushed by the hood.So with that in place we can now close our hood and our front quick lash is installed. Now we'll do the same at the rear. Again, making sure we're to putting it directly on the hatch, set it inside and we'll close our hatch on it and now we have our tie-down here as well. With everything in place, now we can attach our bow and stern tie-downs with no problem.

And there you have it for the Malone quick lash T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308.

I have only used them a couple of times so far so good. They work as they're supposed to. No complaints here.

by:

These are very handy for tying the front down.

by:

Works good

by:

I had no good place to tie down the bow of my kayak when mounted on my Suburban. The Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops fit perfectly under my hood and showed no signs of weakness!

by:

The tie downs are fine. I like the inflatable roof rack for transporting my kayak, but take it off your car if it’s going to rain, because the rain flows down the straps and inside the car!

by:

Hi haven't had a chance to use them the roof rack I ordered from you arrived damaged & I'm waiting for a update the anchors look very durable & I can't wait to use them!

Used it frequently carried 2 kayaks no issues A little noisey &amp I used the install numbers to start &amp then adjusted for a great fit I would recommend this carrier to a friend!

by:

e.trailer as always is a great place to get boating accessories, including kayaking and canoeing, and I go there first before REI or other websites. Website and transactions are excellent, and shipping is fast. The online email included a PDF and two UTube videos of how to use my hood tie downs.
This show some real thought to after purchase help for customers.

by:

The T-Style hood loops work excellently and are easy to use. Would recommend for piece of mind so that you don't need to tie down the kayak to metal under the car hood.

by:

I have had these for 1 year now and have used them several times. They have worked exactly as advertised. Keeps my kayaks secure and once you have the process of mounting down it is pretty easy. Nice product.

by:

Exactly what I needed to attach a bow tie down for my kayak. (My car's front tie-down loops were unfortunately removed, so I really needed something like this. Solid material, super secure.

by:

So far so good. Product is easy to set up and instructions are easy to understand. Mounted on a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with OEM crossbars. It feels sturdy and durable. I like the folding feature easy to raise and lower.

by:

These are great. New Toyota Highlander has no hooks for tie down. They really work very well and are easy to put on and off.

by:

Great, easy way to secure my kayak. I have nothing to easily tie off to in the front of my vehicle, so being able to just close the hood on this and tie off to it is a great convenience.

by:

Works great in 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

by:

Not used them yet but they are great to tie down boats to vehicles!

by:

Perfect for vehicles with no convenient front/rear line anchors.

by:

worked well and keep the kayaks safe when driving on the highway.

by:

It's doing the job of securing my kayak to my prius that doesn't have front or back hooks.

by:

I can now load my 14' tandem kayak by myself. Excellent product.

by:

Very useful for both SUV hood and back hatch.

by:

worked as promised

by:

Very simple to use. No need to look for hooks under the car anymore

by:

Excellent product selection and customer service. Speedy delivery and follow up.

by:

Better than the Thule quick loops which are more then twice the price. I tried those as well.

by:

Efficient. Cost effective great options and selection

  • Best Roof Rack and Water Sport Carrier for 2 Kayaks or Paddle Boards on 2014 Ford Edge
The combination you mentioned works great for your setup! On a 2014 Ford Edge without rails or crossbars, the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, part # RRVA137B-2, is a highly-rated crossbar with a lot of versatility. They're aerodynamic and extend past the roof rack legs, giving even more space for mounting your accessories. They also have built-in C-channels for channel-mounting accessories. I've included a link to an installation video for you. Keep in mind that in order to use these...

  • Kayak Carrier for 2016 Honda CR-V with OEM Roof Rack Crossbars
You are correct. For your factory crossbars on the CR-V you can use foam blocks like the Malone Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 12" Long # MPG154 which will give you the components you need to secure the kayak as well. For a better hold, I recommend using a J-style carrier with your factory bars like the Swagman Contour Rooftop Kayak Carrier System with Tie-Downs - Fixed Arms - J-Style - Universal Mount # S65148. This is much better if you will be doing highway driving...

  • Does Malone FoldAway-5 Kayak Carrier Fit & Work With Inno Aero Roof Rack
Hi Mark, I am happy to verify that Inno aero roof racks are 100 percent compatible with the Malone FoldAway-5 Kayak Carrier # MAL38FR. The # MAL38FR will very easily just clamp onto the aero bars without any issues whatsoever. The only other thing I recommend (if you don't have them) are hood loops so you can attach the bow and stern tie-downs that come with the FoldAway-5. For that use the Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops for Bow and Stern Tie-Downs # MPG308.

  • Recommended Way To Carry Two Kayaks on a 2019 Subaru Outback
The best way to carry two kayaks on the roof of your 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon would be with two sets of j-style carriers. For this, I recommend the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier part # MPG114MD (2) which has folding uprights that you can lay flat while no kayaks are attached and you can add the Telos XL Load Assist part # MPG351XL if you need help loading the kayaks. The reason you will want to use a set of j-style carriers is because they will be the easiest to load and take your kayaks...

  • Saddles with Locks for a 95 Pound Kayak on a 2016 GMC Acadia
Your best bet is actually the saddle mounts. Unfortunately, there's no good J-Style racks that are locking and will have the weight capacity for your kayak. Saddle mounts directly transfer the weight to the bars, so they are a lot easier for fitting heavier kayaks. I have two saddle-style recommendations for you that include locking features and can support the weight of your kayak. The first is the Inno Locker, part # INA446. This is a strap-down carrier that will carry the kayak hull...

  • Easiest Way To Load Two Kayaks on a 2011 Toyota Sienna
The best option I have for you to easily load two kayaks on top of your 2011 Toyota Sienna is going to be with the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier and TelosXL Load Assist w/ Tie-Downs part # MPG114MD-351XL and the Malone DownLoader Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs part # MPG114MD. The reason that this is the best system for you is because it allows for one person, no matter their height or strength to easily load a kayak onto the roof of even the tallest vehicles. When Malone was here for...

  • How Do I Secure A Kayak To My Roof When There Are No Anchor Points On The Front Of My Vehicle?
The Yakima SweetRoll Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs # Y04074 can be attached to basically any sturdy hooking point on the front of your vehicle. I took a look at the front end of the 2021 Kia Telluride and I agree that there appears to be no good hooking point for the kayak tie-down straps to attach to. Luckily, there is a solution. You can simply use Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops for Bow and Stern Tie-Downs - Qty 2 # MPG308. This comes with two T-style loops; one can be installed under...

  • Trailer Hitch, Bike Rack & Roof Rack For 2023 Subaru Forester
We can get your 2023 Subaru Forester set up, and from how I'm reading this you want a trailer hitch receiver and hitch-mounted bike rack, along with a roof rack and kayak carrier. Since it sounds like the hitch and bike rack are top priorities, we'll start there: - etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e83ZR - Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack - Black # SH22B, Pearl # SH22P, or Gray # SH22G The hitch is a fit for your '23 Forester and is a bolt-on installation that also has good bumper and ground...

Yes, I can help you out no problem. You can use the Malone T-Style Hood Loops, # MPG308. Close the cylinder part in the trunk or hood (or both) and leave the strap part sticking out. Instant tie down point and they will not damage your 2010 Ford Mustang GT. I have included a link to a video review of these Quick Loops for you.

Curt recommends using the stabilization strap, # 18050, or something similar, for all non-trailer loads with trailer hitch # C13144. There is no specific place the strap has to go. Ideally you will want the strap end that is attached to the vehicle to be higher than where it is attached to the bike rack. Because you have that rear spoiler the hook will most likely not be able to fit right at the top of the hatch on your 2014 Subaru Forester. To get around that you can use Malone hood loops...

  • Best Kayak Carrier For Ocean Malibu Two XL Kayak
By far the best option for a rack to carry your Ocean Malibu Two XL kayak is the BigCatch from Yakima, which is the following part number: - Yakima BigCatch Kayak Carrier # Y04091 The BigCatch # Y04091 (which I verified with Yakima will fit your 4Runner) is the only carrier capable of handling both the 90 lb weight and 43 inch width of your kayak. The Download can handle up to 1-3/4 inch thick crossbars when using the larger included bolts. Just let me know if this is not the case.
