Video Transcript for Malone QuickLash T-Style Bow and Stern Tie-Down Hood Loops Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone Quick Latch T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308. So once you have your kayak in place and you have it strapped down to the roof rack system, you do need bow and stern tie-downs for each end. However, if you don't have any tie-down points underneath or you don't have a hitch in installed in the back, one of the options you can utilize is the quick latch hood loop. So pretty much what these do is create tie-down points for the hooks of your bow and stern tie-downs and they have an end cap on the inside which is closed inside your hatch of your hood or the hatch of your trunk while you tie these down. The end caps are made from a polypropylene and are injection molded to this T-shape for superior fit and durability. This has a load capacity of 150 pounds, come in a quantity of two, and has a one year warranty. When comparing this to other products, two that come up are going to be the Rhino-Rack anchor strap, part number RRRBAS and the Thule Quick Lubes, part number TH530.As far as the most economical choice, that's going to go to the Malone. As far as quantity is concerned, that's going to go to both the Malone and the Thule as it comes with two hood loops or two loops with the Rhino-Rack strap only coming with one.As far as durability is concerned, that's going to go to the Malone as it's made from a harder material. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and show you how they work. We have our two hood loops here on our table.

This is pretty much what you're goin got get with the kit once you buy it.First, to install these, at least for our front portion of our tie-down, we're going to have to pop the hood open. With our hood open we have to find a good spot for our quick lash to set into place. We found that this area here will work just as long as it's in a spot where it's not going to get crushed by the hood.So with that in place we can now close our hood and our front quick lash is installed. Now we'll do the same at the rear. Again, making sure we're to putting it directly on the hatch, set it inside and we'll close our hatch on it and now we have our tie-down here as well. With everything in place, now we can attach our bow and stern tie-downs with no problem.

And there you have it for the Malone quick lash T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308.

These are great. New Toyota Highlander has no hooks for tie down. They really work very well and are easy to put on and off. 634431

e.trailer as always is a great place to get boating accessories, including kayaking and canoeing, and I go there first before REI or other websites. Website and transactions are excellent, and shipping is fast. The online email included a PDF and two UTube videos of how to use my hood tie downs. This show some real thought to after purchase help for customers. 604953

I had no good place to tie down the bow of my kayak when mounted on my Suburban. The Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops fit perfectly under my hood and showed no signs of weakness! 517111

Do you have a question about this Accessories and Part?

  • How To Secure a Wenonah Spirit II Canoe On a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • I do have some options for you but the Load Stops for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars part # RRRLH2 that you referenced are not going to be sufficient to secure your Wenonah Spirit II Canoe because they don't offer enough support/stability. This canoe is going to require a much more secure carrier for which I recommend using the Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs part # MPG112MD which will fit your Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars. The Malone BigFoot Pro Canoe Carrier has...

  • Using the Thule Hull-A-Port XT on a 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon
  • The Thule Hull-A-Port XT, part # TH848, is a great pick for the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon and is a confirmed fit for the factory crossbars. If you don't have the factory installed crossbars, the AeroBlade Edge kit will give you an easy load onto the vehicle, letting you avoid having to hike the kayak around the ends of the bars. This kit consists of: AeroBlade Edge Bars, Silver, part # TH7601-TH7601 or Black, part # TH7601B-TH7601B AeroBlade Edge Fit Kit, part # THKIT4063 You...

  • Kayak Rack for 2018 Subaru Outback Limited with Factory Roof Rack
  • The Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073, is a great J-style carrier that fits the factory crossbars on your 2018 Subaru Outback. All of the tie-downs are included. I like the JayLow because it can be folded down when you're not using it and it can also be adapted to carry two kayaks if you ever need it. They aren't required but I like to recommend the Malone QuickLash hood loops, part # MPG308, to make the tie-down connections easier. For another option look at the Lockrack carrier, part...

  • Does Thule Kayak Stacker Fit on Factory Crossbars of 2018 Subaru Outback
  • Thule confirmed that the Kayak Stacker, part # TH830, does fit the factory crossbars on your 2018 Subaru Outback; however, if your kayak is over 10 feet long you want to use the Hull-A-Port XT, part # TH848, instead. Both carriers include tie-down straps to connect the kayak to the carrier as well as 2 more for the bow and stern. I recommend adding the Malone QuickLash Loops, part # MPG308, to make the bow and stern connections easier.

  • 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon Kayak Racks for Factory Roof Rack Systems
  • For the 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon, I recommend the Malone DownLoader, part # MPG114MD. This is a flexible, J-Style rack that installs quickly onto your crossbars, and folds flat for when you don't have time to pull it off immediately. The carrier also includes small load-assist ramps on both J's of the carrier, helping support at least a little weight of the kayak as you get it onto the roof of your vehicle. Additionally, the DownLoader can support kayaks up to 36 inches wide, so you...

  • Carrier for 2 Kayaks on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory Roof Rack
  • It's likely going to fit just fine but I checked with Thule and they haven't tested the Hull-A-Port XT, part # TH848, on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek as of yet so I can't say with certainty. It does fit the 2018 and the 2019 is the same generation so that's a good sign. A similar kayak carrier is the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. It is confirmed, by Yakima, to fit the 2019 Crosstrek and will also carry both your kayaks. I've linked videos on both of the carriers. With either of...

  • For carrying a Kayak on almost any vehicle, I recommend aero style bars, as their width is a better platform for the shape of the kayak. For a rack kit, I recommend the RhinoRack Vortex Aero kit, consisting of: Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars, 49 inches long, Silver, part # RRVA126S-2, or Black, part # RRVA126B-2 Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Legs for Vortex bars, part # RRRLKVA DK Fit Kit for 2500 Legs, part # DK396 This provides you with a solid rack for your vehicle. • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2016 Ford Explorer with Sunroof and Roof Rails
  • The weight capacity of most of the roof racks is 165 pounds but you're going to be limited by the capacity of your Explorer's roof. I took a look at an online copy of your owner's manual and it states that you're limited to only 45 pounds with the moonroof. Check your printed copy to verify. If it's correct then you'll only be able to carry about 30 pounds on a roof rack because most racks are roughly 15 pounds or so. If you can carry kayaks on your 2016 Ford Explorer that has flush...

  • Saddles with Locks for a 95 Pound Kayak on a 2016 GMC Acadia
  • Your best bet is actually the saddle mounts. Unfortunately, there's no good J-Style racks that are locking and will have the weight capacity for your kayak. Saddle mounts directly transfer the weight to the bars, so they are a lot easier for fitting heavier kayaks. I have two saddle-style recommendations for you that include locking features and can support the weight of your kayak. The first is the Inno Locker, part # INA446. This is a strap-down carrier that will carry the kayak...

Since it sounds like you are just looking to carry a kayak, a simple, easy to remove roof rack is the best pick. Prior to using the roof rack, you'll want to verify your roof capacity with your owner's manual or manufacturer. This capacity will include the weight of the kayak, carrier and roof rack, and will be limited by the lowest...

My research shows that your RAV4 is rated for 100 pounds on its roof, though you'll want to verify with your owner's manual the exacts of your configuration. • I do have a way that you can carry 2 kayaks on your 2019 Toyota Highlander but when I checked out the online version of the owner's manual on page 204 it states not to exceed 165 lbs of weight on the roof rack. Since your 2 kayaks have a combined weight of 130 lbs and the Thule Hullavator Pro # TH898 weighs right at 40 lbs that puts you at 170 lbs which is over the weight rating for your Highlander. • The Lockrack Watersport Carrier # 339-LRUNISETX will work on your 2019 Subaru Outback. I checked with the manufacturer and they confirmed that it will work on the factory crossbars with your 2019 Subaru Outback. This is an awesome rack and it won't have any issues carrying your Hobie Mirage Outback, but since it's rather long, you may want to consider using something similar to # MPG309 and # MPG308 to secure both ends of the kayak for some added security when traveling long distances.

If you actually have a set of 80 inch bars, you won't have any trouble. Prior to installing, be sure to verify your vehicle's roof capacity with your owner's manual or manufacturer. The 2016 Ford Edge has two different roof styles, and you'll need to use the right kit for the roof you have. • How to Carry 2 Kayaks on a 2018 Subaru Impreza
  • My favorite kayak carrier to recommend for two kayaks is the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. It's a J-style carrier for one boat but converts to a post style to carry two. It's not the only carrier that works this way but it has a higher weight capacity than the others since it can carry a total of 110 pounds. You do need additional tie-downs for the second boat. Additionally, a set of Malone Quick-Lash loops, part # MPG308 can be extremely useful for quickly adding easy to access tie down points to your hood for the bow of your kayaks. They also work in the trunk's hatch, but are a little harder to tie to.
