Question:

Hi I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado that does not have the trailer connector already installed. I see the main wiring trunk near the rear of the frame underneath and it has a series of wires stubbed and folded over and secured that look like where a connector would go. But, Im clueless on where to go from here. My boat trailer that I need to pull has a has a flat connector with three male and one female pole. Is there a kit that I could connect to the wires I described coming off the main wiring trunk? Or is there somewhere else I need to connect to? How do I do this?

On the 2002 Chevy Silverado the trailer wiring harness on models that do not have a factory installed trailer connector is located above the spare tire. You should see either a harness that ends with a round plug (which may have a cap on it) or you will have a harness that just has bare wires like what you are seeing.

If you test the wires using a circuit tester such as # 40376 then the yellow wire should be left turn/brake lights, dark green should be right turn/brake lights, brown should be running lights, and white is the ground. But verify the functions with the circuit tester and connect them to # 18252. This 4-Way comes with a little circuit tester you could use if you don't want to use # 3808.

On the 18252 harness, white is ground, brown is running lights, green is right turn/brakes, and yellow is left turn/brakes. To hold the 4-Way you can use a bracket such as # 18144.
