Tow Ready Accessories and Parts - 18144

Features:

  • Mounting bracket for 4-way flat connectors
  • Includes screws and nuts for installation
    • Self tapping screws are included to attach the bracket directly to the bottom of the bumper
  • Works with Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Tow Ready and Valley 4 pole flat trailer connectors
    • Will not work with Hopkins, Wesbar, TAP or Plug-N-Tow brand connectors

Note: For a no-drill option, use this part with the Short Bracket (#18140) or Long Bracket (#18136). Clamp the short or long bracket to the hitch and attach the trailer connector mount to the no-drill bracket. A few Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch Class III, IV and V trailer hitches have the no-drill brackets already installed on them.

Video Transcript for Tow Ready 4-Pole Mounting Bracket Installation

Today we are going to be installing the universal 4-Flat connector part number 18144 in conjunction with our universal short bracket part 18140. With our wire already routed outside of the vehicle we'll go ahead and install the 4-flat mounting bracket on the universal mounting bracket. We'll use the supplied hardware to secure it. With our two screws tightened down, take the worm clamp and secure directly to the hitch. Now we've got that tightened down, I'll go ahead and take a pair of tin snips and cut off the excess from the clamp. With the clamp secure we'll go ahead and route the 4 pole through the 4-Flat mounting bracket and input the cap on the end of our 4 pole.

And there you have it with the installation of tow ready 4-flat connector part number 18144 along with our tow ready universal short bracket part number 18140.

Purchased with a Draw-Tite hitch that has the bracket welded to the cross member. No sweat to install onto hitch. Remember to mount the bracket to the hitch before installing hitch. Also, the vertical tab with the slot must face the rear of the truck to accept the plug from the wiring harness. 440975

Cheaper metal used. Should be a bit heavier and come with the NO Drill bracket. That way the buyer can decide up front which way to go. Without the No Drill bracket, this bracket will hang down and be visible where as the hitch isn't on my Santa Fe. $5 for this bracket is fine, but $15 for the other bracket is a bit much. 572222

As basic as this part is, it's just as crappy. Didnt even bother trying to install it. Sony waste your money. I was going for a perfect nice secured fir for the connector, this wouldn't provide that. 572617

This product is a good solution for mounting the light plug. I did break two bits trying to drill the bumper of my ‘03 Toyota Tacoma, which made me wish I’d considered ordering the no-drill model. The mount screwed down tight and accepted the plug as described. 570549

Thanks for checking in. The trailer hitch was great and held up fantastic. Only got to use it about 4 times, but it worked perfectly. The wiring harness matched perfectly and was a breeze to install. The SUV I mounted it on didnt have enough towing capacity for my new boat, so I ended up trading it in for a newer one that had a factory hitch pre-wired setup. So the hitch receiver and wiring stayed with the SUV upon trade in. I held on to the ball mounts and the other bars and have used them a bunch for towing and launching and they are working great.

Over the past few weeks, I have purchased a Class III Hitch, Wire harness and 4-Pole Mounting Bracket from etrailer.com. I installed these on a 2015 Tiguan SEL. This project went very smoothly with no smashed fingers, no blood and no tears. Just total satisfaction with job well done. My little Tig is about to become a very happy Hauler. He will soon unite with his trusty Utility Trailer. Actually, it was a very rewarding project as it went sooooooo smoothly, I almost thought something was wrong. The prompt service and thorough follow up from etrailer.com is fantastic. I have done business with them before and will do so again. 188742

This product is EXACTLY what was needed. A draw-tite hitch had been installed, but the actual vehicle wiring plug was left hanging. 1. The bracket holes match with the Draw-tight plate. 2. Easy application; slide the 4-pole fitting through the slot. Check it is snug. 3. Put the bracket in place, apply the 2 screws and tighten. You're done, a neat professional application. 230654

Installed along with a no drill mounting bracket part # 18140. Wiring harness used was the T-one wiring harness part # 118409. Holds 4 pin connector in very tight. Recommended! 241867

The curt hitch products I ordered were excellent and a very good value. Install easy but, with my vehicle the muffler had to be lowered and two holes in the frame enlarged to fit the bolts. The wiring harness was another brand and was easy to install. I routes the 4 wat flat connector to the purchased bracket and mounted directly into the rear frame The receiver Pin & lock seem to be good quality and the lock attaches quickly and easily Note - The packaging could have been much better. Other than the curt hitch which was in its own box some items were loose in the box. Two opened items and nothing was packed tight inside the box. Example- the keys and lock cover were missing from the pkg and I found them in the packing material. 404828

It provided a good universal adapator that you can mount almost on any flat surface and still reach it. I ended up not putting it on the hitch, so it wasn't shown and would accumulate more dirt, and ended up installing it just above the hitch on metal flange that needed just two holes drilled and it was completed. 139793

This was pretty easy to install using the self-tapping screws, although I did add some locking washers to help make sure it was extra secure. And the trailer wire plug seems to fit well in the opening. 157914

Its been a year and the bracket is still functioning well. The only complaint would be with the interface for the wiring harness, it is a bit loose and needs some epoxy to hold it tight.

I purchased the Tekonsha 118605 T-One wiring harness but needed a mount for my 4-pole/pin connector. This product fit the bill. Though I opted not to use it as designed, I flattened it such that the opening would fit more appropriately with the existing opening in my trailer hitch (see photo). But other than that, the plug is mounted VERY snugly in place and I don't expect it to move during it's lifetime of use. 513480

Bought this along with the hitch C13143, wiring harness 56083 and bracket 18144. While the hitch and wiring harness went on as described, and I have nothing but praise for the product and service (and YouTube videos), these two brackets were not made for my Lexus. The hitch is too far back and up for these to work as advertised. However, I figured out if I cut the cover a bit more, I could mount these right behind the side hole in the hitch, and they are accessible but also out of the way, and out of sight. Needed a bigger clamp, but lucky I had one in my workbench. Check out the picture for how it looks. Make sure your trailer wires are long enough to reach to it. Don't cover the hole for your locking mechanism! 419001

This item is insufficient for mounting the 4 pin connector. There is nothing that fastens the 4 pin connector to this bracket. This is a problem when connecting the trailer lights to the vehicle where this bracket is mounted. There is nothing to “hold” the 4 pin flat vehicle connector, so when you go to connect the trailer 4 pin connector to the vehicle connector, the adapter pushes straight out of this mounting plate. If there was a mechanism to hold the 4 pin wire harness in place while applying force from the trailer connector, then this would work great. Since there is not, the 4 pin connector pushes out of this plate and just dangles. I would have been better off buying nothing and just having the wire dangle. 156739

I purchased this because I live in the snow belt and did not want the wire dangling under the vehicle. Works perfect and bolted on like it was supposed to 571220

After reading other reviews and watching the simple how-to video on e-trailer this product (118449) was extremely easy to install and works as expected. I would recommend this to anyone looking to install their own harness on the 2012 Highlander. The only thing that I would like to see added is another thin plug/receptacle that can fit through a splice in the rubber grommets at the rear of the vehicle (so the 4-pole connector can be mounted permanently outside the vehicle). The existing 4 pin connectors on both ends are too large to feed through the vehicle body grommets. Instead I spliced the wires, ran them through the grommet, and re-soldered and heat shrank the wires for a solid connection. I intentionally spliced the wires closer to the plug internal to the vehicle to avoid problems with dust, grime, and corrosion. To mount the 4-pole connector outside the vehicle I paired this product with 18144 and 18140, at the suggestion of customer service at e-trailer. (Customer service was wonderful!) This worked splendidly. I'm very happy with the end result, and considering my total cost was about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of a factory installed version I don't think there's a better option. Incidentally, I have a Curt hitch which has round bars underneath. This posed no problems for the no-drill mount. It seems to secure tight enough to remove all play from the mounting bracket (18140). All in all I'm very happy with customer service and all three products I used for this project. 48965

What can I say but this was the easiest trailer hitch install I've ever done. OK, this was the third one (85 S-10 blazer, 96 Astro van, and this is the third). Our 03 Envoy (traded it in for the Equinox) and 02 2500HD (still have) both have factory hitches. It was delivered by UPS ground late afternoon and by 6:30 I had it installed. Jacked up the rear of the Equinox, placed two jack stands and followed the instructions. I will say Watch The Video for the install and it is that easy. I chose this hitch as it required no grinding or enlarging of the holes as the other hitch (Curt model). The video was spot on. I did apply some antisieze on the bolts as I always assume I will need to remove it at some future time. There was written instructions that I did look through but they matched the video. I did not use a strap to hold the exhaust as the video and the instructions showed. I used a bungy cord and adjusted it for a similar drop as a strap. I wanted to do this as I felt I may need to drop exhaust even more than the instructions as I installed this by myself. If you have an available friend it will make it easier to hold the hitch in place and start a nut on each side rather than using both hands and one leg. Working with etrailer was easy. This order was delayed by another item I had bundled together with it. The email communication from etrailer was appropriate and let me know what was going on. The delay was not a real issue as we special ordered this car and it took about 6 weeks to arrive. We keep our vehicles forever (still have the S-10 and the Astro) and I look forward to this hitch providing us years of trouble free service. I was quite impressed with the craftsmanship on this hitch, the welds were perfect. The entire hitch except where the receiver goes in is hidden behind the rear valence. Thank you etrailer! 400540

Delivery was amazing. Ordered on Monday and had the products on Wednesday. I am 71 and a retired desk jockey but was able to install the hitch and wiring harness on my 2016 Explorer in less than 3 hours including my coffee breaks. I used a small hydraulic jack to lower my exhaust onto a car support and then used the same hydraulic jack to lift my hitch while I bolted it up. The install would have gone faster with 2 people but there were no problems doing the installation by myself other than using more time. My only suggestion would be for you to offer a completed package for the hitch and wiring harness installation. I searched your reviews and was able to get everything I needed including the extra long zip ties but after the installation was complete I realized that I forgot to order the tester. But everything worked great when I hooked the trailer up. Great product, great price, great delivery and easy installation. Why pay UHaul $400 plus or Ford $600 plus for the same parts and installation ? You can do it ! 384898

There was no problem with the bracket, just a problem of deciding where to mount it. I mounted it to the bottom of the bumper at a bracket to the left of the hitch center. I used some 1" self drilling screws to attach it. I think this will work but if it is not strong enough I can mount a steel bracket to some metal and make a more solid mount. The wiring harness snapped into the bracket and I think will stay there under normal service. 88294

Bracket holds the wiring harness ok, however, when I plug my trailer plug into it I have to hold the back of the wiring harness so it does not push all the way through. This really just a minor problem

I installed the Draw-Tite 76128 Hitch, the 118741 wiring harness and the 18144 bracket to mount the wiring plug. You can route the plug through the hole that is provided for the factory hitch wiring (it will fit through, but it is tight) and use the bracket to clean up the install. It looks pretty sweet doing it this way. 400894

I am still very satisfied with the installation as well as the products. They were put to use about a month ago towing a trailer from Central Vermont to Southeast Ohio. That was about 800 miles and absolutely no trouble.

Good product, easy to install with a little patience. For a cleaner look, I went with the "drill" option and used the self-tapping screws. My Curt hitch for the 2007 Santa Fe has a nice flat surface on the hitch bar, easy to seat the bracket. Use a 1/8" high-strength bit and take your time making the holes. The self-tapping screws are a bit flimsy, but do the job. Mounted the bracket to the right of the hitch b/c there was lots of slack in the wiring harness. Wrapped the wiring in corrugated shield and zip-tied to the hitch for a snug fit. No more dangling wires. 106826

- 18144

by:

This bracket definitely holds the end piece on the wiring very securely. It was almost difficult to push the wiring into this piece, but that is actually reassuring, because I know the wiring will not back itself out of this bracket. Installation was easy. I only had to drill another hole because they were too far apart for my application. The bracket is small enough that I was able to put it in a spot on the hitch so that it will not be hit by anything that traditionally messes up after-market wiring. 29657

I only gave this 4 stars because I've seen reviewers complain of having to order the second part separately. It does in fact show a chart on the back of this box what additional part number you need to order based on your application to make this a no drill option (it's an extension piece of metal that you screw this into then tie strap the joined pieces to whatever you wish). I could see how that would be annoying. I ordered this not intending to buy that extra piece so it worked just fine for my plan. I have a CURT hidden receiver on my truck, it has a 1/2" lip approximately 6" back from the receiver. I held the bracket up to it, marked two screw holes, drilled them out then put the black screws through attached the nuts and put my existing 4-pole connector through. It's metal on metal, secured and won't be held with a flimsy zip tie like the no-drill option. It ain't going nowhere and looks pretty good if I don't say so myself. 289302

Last February I installed my hitch and the optional light. Upon recently becoming aware this mounting plate was available, I ordered and installed. I chose to install the mount backward from what is intended to recess the wiring connector back into the hitch area as much as possible, to protect during the harsh winter months. This also helped eliminate a protruding connection when the hitch light is installed. Very simple to install, looks and functions great. 129446

Everything about my eTrailer experience has been absolutely first class, including the follow up emails, 2 of them. Due to a medical problem it's taken me over a year to complete the installation but that's on my end. I installed the hitch and wiring harness in May of 2016. I just now got to running the power wire up to the battery and finishing the job today, 8/2/17. Again, all due to issues on my end. The product, the personal assistance, and the videos made this job as easy as it could be for this 68 year old putting a hitch on a 2012 KIA Sedona by himself. Thanks to eTrailer for running a most excellent company in every regard. 417296

I ended up installing in the bumper. I was hesitant to do that because I knew it would be a little less sturdy than I like. But, in the end for the infrequent use it'll get I didn't think it would matter much. Plus the holes are small enough and not visible, so if I absolutely need to move it later it won't be a big deal. The one issue I ran into is before I got around to installing it, I was playing with it a bit. I "tested" out the fit for the 4-Pole connector. Fit was great, I just couldn't get it out once I shoved it through. Which is great to know...just meant that it was a little more difficult feeding the wiring through a couple of the tight spots I needed to. One thing is for sure, I won't need to worry about the connector falling out of this bracket. Would purchase again. 129406

Mounted in seconds, looks good, stops hanging wires. Self tapping screws are just bright coated, and sure to rust. Wish stainless hardware was provided. 58258

I actually purchased two, one for each vehicle. I like the plug and the bracket, but the fasteners rusted badly over the last winter Pennsylvania salt. I would like to see stainless hardware on future mounting kits.

Bolted right up. The only trick to this installation is to support the exhaust pipe just passed the muffler with a ratchet strap. Lubricate the exhaust pipe hangers. I used regular sae 30 motor oil. I think there is 4 or 5 of them. Use a screwdriver or small crowbar to pop them off. The tailpipe will drop down enough to gain access to the threaded holes in the bumper. It helps to have an extra set of hands but you could do it yourself with a jack. It bolted right up. I also got the wiring harness and it was a snap. I trimmed the driver side splash guard to fit around the hitch and it looks fantastic. Also, I got the part to attach the flat 4-pin connector. Works great. I used it the next morning and everything worked like a champ. Thanks! 290237

My recommendation is to follow the owner's manual of your 2014 Ford C-Max. But if you decide to tow, this hitch is your best option. I have help articles attached on tips for towing...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness Options for a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with OEM Trailer Plug
  • The Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75699, will fit your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Tow Ready Mounting Bracket, # 18144, will work with this hitch as well. At this time, there are no vehicle specific trailer wiring harnesses available for the 2014 models because it is a relatively new vehicle, but if your Jeep has an active OEM US style round plug behind the bumper, you may be able to the Hopkins Plug-In Trailer Connector, # 41155. I have attached a photo showing what the...

  • Parts Needed To Add A 7-Way To The Chevy Traverse
  • Yes, I will be happy to help add a tow package to your 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. First, you will need 4-way Flat Trailer Connector # 118450. The purpose of this item is to control and allow the basic hookup of the three lighting functions (running, turn, and brake lights) plus one pin is provided for a ground wire. Most standard light duty trailers will use a 4-pole flat connector. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your Chevrolet Traverse's wiring harness, which is located behind...

  • Is there a Quick Connector Trailer Wiring Harness Available for a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The T-One wiring kit, item # 118425, is a quick T-connector kit that installs inline with the vehicle taillight wiring and does not require splicing into the vehicle factory wiring. This connector will provide a 4-Way trailer connector at the rear of your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The hardest part about installing this wiring harness is accessing the wiring at the rear of the vehicle taillights. We have a video of the # 118425 Harness being installed on a 2007 model which will be very...

  • The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56291 is installed and mounted inside the trunk space of your 2018 Honda Pilot, as you can see by the accompanying photo, which is from a video we did installing this connector in a '17 Pilot. If you wanted to mount your connector under your Pilot you would not need to use the T-One 7-Way # 118286 if you do not need it. Instead you can use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118760,...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with Factory Tow Package
  • For the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe with the factory tow package, you would need the Custom Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118258. The harness would plug into the connector that is located underneath the vehicle inside the lower body panels on the driver side next to the muffler. I would also recommend a mounting bracket, part # 18144 or part # 38095, and it would be a good idea to use dielectric grease like part # 11755 between the connectors. The grease will protect the plugs from moisture...

This feature is not universally offered on all OEM or after-market hitches. On this hitch you can use a 7-way bracket such as Draw-Tite # 18138, which includes hardware. For instances where other hitches without this feature are used we offer a variety of brackets for 4-pole and other types of trailer connector...

Therefore this hitch does not include a mounting location for trailer wiring. Since there is limited space on the hitch crossbar, a mounting bracket is not included on the hitch. Additionally, the rear fascia has to be trimmed to complete the installation of this hitch. I have included a photos showing this hitch installed on a 2013...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1994 GMC C/K Series Pickup Truck

It wasn't until 1999 that the Sierra started to take the place of the C or K designation and that transition was complete in 2000. For a trailer wiring harness that will fit your truck I recommend the Tow Ready harness # 118315. It plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. A mounting bracket such as # 18144 is also recommended.
