Question:
Im looking for a hitch for a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Sport. My use will be mostly bike/ski carriers and rarely actual towing less than 2000 lbs gross. You have a few that look simple to install hidden hitch and I am interested in these. My concern is will this interfere with clearance? I dont want to scrape the curb. I will be installing myself so simple is better. What are your recommendations? Thank you

For a trailer hitch with the simplest installation on your 2015 Jeep Cherokee, I recommend the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13171. This trailer hitch does not require drilling or fascia trimming for installation on the Cherokee Sport. Curt has deemed the installation of the # C13171 "easy" and estimates a 60 minute installation time when installing at home.
From the top of the receiver opening to the ground measured 11-3/4 inches on the 2015 Cherokee we installed the # C13171 on. You will still have good ground clearance with the hitch, but the trailer hitch will lower your ground clearance at the back.
Another great hitch option is the Curt Class III Receiver Hitch # C13172. This hitch does have a bit more difficult installation, but will provide you with better clearance and a cleaner install look. With this trailer hitch, you will have approximately 12-3/4 inches from the top of the receiver to the ground. Some of the reasons this hitch is more difficult to install is because it requires the exhaust to be lowered, fascia to be temporarily loosened or removed, and some fascia to be trimmed.
We have found that while the # C13171 is a bit easier to install, it is also more likely to make contact with the muffler and cause muffler rattle. This means we had to get under the Cherokee again and work with some of the muffler hangers to move the muffler further away from the hitch. We have not had this problem with the # C13172 trailer hitch.
I have attached installation videos and instructions of both the # C13171 and # C13172 on 2015 Jeep Cherokees for you.
