Perfect fit,easy installation

Heavy duty for sure, and it's rated higher than we will ever need. However, it is designed to be too close to the muffler and when driven on rough roads the muffler was banging into it. if they had just moved the crossbar another 1/8-3/16" further it would not have this problem. Also the vertical part of the mounting brackets was so tight on the frame rails I had to use a jack to push it up. That made it quite difficult to pull the fish wire through the hole since it was pinched between the frame and hitch. Again, just 1/8" more clearance and I don't think it would have been a problem. The included fish wire worked great. The hardware is robust. etrailer had the hitch for a good price and I will buy from them again.

This hitch package is awesome.I purchased this for my 2019 jeep Cherokee and it's a perfect fit. It was at my door 2 days after purchasing it and I just installed it today and it was very easy exactly as described. It's heavy duty and has a durable Finnish coating. I am very happy with my purchase and would definitely recomend this product

Terrific quality and comes with the fish wire to insert the bolts. Simple installation with the right tools and an extra set of hands. Thank you for the quality product!

2015 Jeep Cherokee

Installed the etrailer hitch on our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude in about 1.5 hours and am very satisfied. The delay wasn't anything to do with the thorough instructions and complete parts included, only to wait for a friend to come help lift the hitch into place. This is definitely a two person install due to the weight and tight quarters plus having the right sockets, torgue wrench and garage space. Would purchase from etrailer again without question. Fast Delivery, complete instructions and value will be remembered about this project. Thank you.

The muffler on our hitch vibrates in its current location & required a heat resistant wrap around this area held in place w zip ties. No problems otherwise. Should have ordered the hitch that is higher up & required a cut out of the bumper however this style would prevent opening the trunk when our carrier is loaded.

There are times the hitch may come into contact with the exhaust system resulting in an annoying rattling sound. It is possible to bend the hanger with a pair of pliers to get the exhaust away from the hitch. If the exhaust is bolted to the frame, unbolt it and reposition it. In some situations, the rubber isolators can become stretched and cause the exhaust to hang lower. Sometimes simply replacing the rubber isolator will help keep the exhaust in place. I have attached a help article on exhaust rattle.

2017 Jeep Cherokee

I weighed all the options about buying a hitch for a new model car online, and decided to buy from etrailer since I read reviews about the great customer service. There was an issue with my shipment and, in fact, the customer service was outstanding and they worked with me on a quick resolution. The hitch was installed on a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and it looks great! I was concerned that since it is not a hidden hitch it would detract from the car, but you can barely notice it. It took about two hours to unpack, read the instructions and install it. We had two people but we used a hydraulic floor jack to lift and keep in place, so it could have easily been a one person job. The instructions were very clear. Had a little trouble with torching the last bolt because of the limited room available. Buying and installing ourselves saved us hundreds of dollars. We are using it for a bike rack and a flatbed trailer. I noticed that the wrap had worn off during transit on all the edges, so maybe covering those edges with cardboard before wrapping would prevent that.

by:

The Curt trailer is easy to install for someone who is handy.
The installation does not involve any cutting of the bumper fascia
which is great since my Jeep Cherokee is a leased vehicle.
I needed this hitch for my mountain bike rack and my Jeep gets me to those back mountain trails. Ride on!

2019 Jeep Cherokee

My installation was on a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2. No difficult with minimal mechanical skills, and having a lift and a trans jack made it an easy one person job. In addition to the existing M14 bolts, I did need to "reverse fishwire" 1/2" bolts for the front attachment holes (see photo). Before lifting the hitch in position I recommend trial fitting the bolts to the hitch and file/Dremel if clearance is needed.

Trailhawk owners will loose a lot of "departure angle" ground clearance with this under-slung hitch - see photo.

2014 Jeep Cherokee

Had used etrailer.com before and had such a very nice experience, so when I recently bought a new Jeep and needed A new hitch receiver, I knew where to begin. After reading the reviews and watching videos, I decided on Curt 13171. Installation with the etrailer video and directions couldnt have been simpler. Took about 30 mins to get done. A concern I had was dropping the muffler down to get to the access holes and I was able to install it without doing that. Perfect fit, functional, looks great, and priced right. Very satisfied. I cant recommend etrailer and this receiver more highly. Thanks so much.

I have purchased several hitches from this company now and have always been very pleased with the quality of their products. The additional installation instructions and customer support is outstanding as well. Will be ordering another hitch for my son soon...

2015 Jeep Cherokee

This was an easy install (2015 Jeep Latitude). I did almost all the work by myself (65 years old). A few blocks of wood helped. The hardest part was running the hot wire to the battery and that little self-tapping ground screw. The screw fell out of the bit holder and drop down into the body. Luckily it fell through to the ground (I should have put a rag underneath to catch it). I didn't need jack stands but I did have a 2" ledge that I was able back onto and that gave me plenty of room underneath. I'm very pleased with the results.

2019 Jeep Cherokee

Installed in about 30-45min. Just used regular floor jack on one side to give a little room to slide under. A swivel on the torque wrench may help depending on the style. The rear most bolt was a challenge to get torqued, may have been due to not having the jeep on a lift.

Haven’t field tested yet, but the installation was a breeze with some minor help from my wife for her small hands. Installation videos were spot on. Ordered because I found a lady stuck in a ditch and didn’t have one single hitch point on my 2019 Cherokee. Fit test with an 8 1/2 ton shackle. Pin slides right into the hook points.

Hey Joshua, the Curt hitch part # C13171 that you referenced would be the best hitch for your 2017 Jeep Cherokee if you were wanting to minimize any bumper trimming. It also has the best towing capacities too so it's overall the best option.

Sorry about the confusion. The Curt # C13398 and # C13171 and the etrailer brand # e73ZR would all fit the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Of the various options, a top choice would be the etrailer # e73ZR because once installed it would be the most concealed. The receiver tube would be accessed via the removable panel in the bumper fascia, making for a factory installed appearance. However, if you'll be towing with the hitch, it'll be difficult to attach the safety chains because of the...

The best hitch for your 2018 Jeep Cherokee is the etrailer Hitch item # e62TR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Jeep with included hardware. It does fit the Trailhawk but it also fits the standard models like yours. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 5,000 lbs towing capacity and a 750 lbs tongue weight. To add a hitch to your 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch item # DT28MR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Jeep with included hardware. I really like this hitch because it mounts behind your rear bumper and can be completely concealed when you are not towing a trailer or hauling an accessory. • Will the Curt Hitch part # C13172 and part # C13171 Have Same Ground Clearance
Both the Curt hitch part # C13172 and the part # C13171 will sit right under the rear bumper of a 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee when installed so one would not have any more ground clearance than the other. The biggest difference between the two is that the # C13172 has a hidden cross tube so it would be less visible when installed. I attached an install video for you to check out for this hitch.

This is because the vehicle manufacturing process does not always leave the exhaust in the exact same location on every single vehicle. A weight distribution will be a big help in regards to both ensuring you tow level and sway control, but it will not have a factor on how much tongue weight your 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is able to handle. According to the owner's manual I looked up, the max tongue weight of this vehicle is 450 lbs with the 3.2L engine and Trailer Tow Package, so that is what you are limited to.
